So my problem is that my Leopard is not a Leopard its more like a slug! :(
I think i don´t have supported driver for my ATA devices. i try to find out it here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t517.html I have try copy IOATAFamily.kext and from DVD but it did not help? where i find solution of this.. [edit] Xbench told me that my hdd speed is about 1.44 MB/sec :( thank you! |
Disk speed is rather low on ATA100, I have the same problem (on nforce 4). Xbench has a lot of disk tests. I think you're talking from random uncached write or so. What do you have for a chipset?
|
yes that result is uncached write! I have Asrock motherboard chipset? - Northbridge: AMD 480X CrossFire™ Chipset - Southbridge: ATI™ SB600
here is my MoBo: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveXFire-eSATA2 |
i dont really know what the chipset means but i think i have AM2 chipset? AMD Athlon 64 4200+ X2
|
You had it right: The chipset is the northbridge and southbridge. You've got a 480X / SB600 chipset motherboard. On my 690G / SB600 AM2 motherboard, I had to use the "SB600_SATA_ATA.kext" (maybe it was an installer...) to get the internal drives recognized and working properly. I found it somewhere on InsanelyMac... Maybe it's on the Wiki.
|
thanks! i find this out and try it! :D I hope it works!
|
it wont work.. :( I Installed SB600_SATA_ATA.zip! it contains 2 files:
IOATAFamily.kext AppleOnboardPCATA.kext I put both files in extensions and fix acces. then i try reboot. it uses normally AppleGenericPCATADriver.kext but now it used AppleOnboardPCATA.kext! It gives me never ending IO error! about my disk0s1! :( I booted up on DVD and repaired my hdd. but i didnt try repair acces? then try boot again but it wasnt help. same IO error! then i removed AppleOnboardPCATA.kext and buuted up normally using very slow AppleGenericPCATADriver.kext [edit] I have installed the AppleVIAATA.kext in Wiki too! any ideas? |
I'm not good at installing .kexts manually so I used "Kext Helper" to install "SB600_SATA_ATA"... Don't know if that would do you any good or not. Sorry it didn't work for you.
|
ok i try that. the SB600_SATA_ATA should work for me couse its made on my Asrock ALiveXfire eSATA2!! :D i read it just on insanelymac!
|
iv used that kext helper to install that on a fresh install works like a charm
|
yes. i installed too using kext helper but it gives me error.
It uses AppleServerWorksATA when it founds my HDD i think and then my hdd starts loading loud (noisy sound) repeately complaining: disk0s1: I/O error. 0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [ErrType IO] [ErrNo 5] [IOType Read] [PBlkNum 18009984] ILDlkNum 11008] [FSLogMsgID1417703644] [FSLogMsgOrder First] etc etc i too lazy to write all here :D does anybody ring any bell? YES! I got it work! xbench diskt test sequential score 106.04 thats good start! and i think i have try everything.. :( i just change the IDE-cable (not ide port. the whole cable)and it start work! :D |
It's now an 80pol-cable now i guess, with the thin cables. Hm, as I used a normal one OSX gave me a message that I'm not using one, I think evven my baord said so.

Hi guys, I too am suffering slow access speeds. Although I have a SATA board I've temporarily disabled it and just running the IDE HD and optical drive which is on a single IDE interface.

However, if I disable Disk Test then my overall result sky rockets. Any ideas? I think the disk speed is what's causing Leopard to feel sluggish particularly when doing disk intensive work. |
What's the chipset on your motherboard? Oh... nVidia 570... Does anyone build a .kext for that chipset?
|
Yes it is a 570 board. Even copying data from disk images or burning DVDs causes 'kernel_task' to use almost 100% CPU on both cores.
|
I decided to be brave and install MeDevil's latest AppleNForceATA.kext - much better now!
However, Leopard is only reporting my HD as 128Gb when in fact its 160Gb. ASP and Disk Utility tell me that its 160Gb but the capacity is 128Gb **rubs chin** |
do you have a link to new newer AppleNforceATA.kext? Which version is it?
