is the MCP78S series supported? I thought this was giving users issues with OSx86... but, I've been wrong before. :)

[edit] also, how are you planning on utilizing the 8 Channel Audio? where have you found support for this?

LawlessPPC 01-28-2009 09:36 PM

the audio is alc883 with mini optical toslink through 3.5mm jack like on laptops. Will have to double check on the 78s status but i figured the graphics would get qe/ci and worst case for hdd is usb

post number 5 seems to work on chipset but will dig deeper can you post where youve seen the issues please m8

i was referring to the 8Channel Audio.. I know it uses the 883 but will you get full support?

lol well just ordered the parts

motherboard jetway nc62k http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/ipcboard...&proname=NC62K

CPU AMD x2 5600 65watt

case 8k01 http://www.hec-group.com.tw/pccase/8k/

ill let you know how it stacks up

lanceomni 01-29-2009 05:56 PM

Im thinking how cool it would be to have a hand full of these as a cluster to use as a render farm for fcp. Im having delusions of grandeur.

R0GUE 01-29-2009 07:36 PM

I really like the sound of this, but with such a small enclosure and no real CPU power management for AMD chips, would it not be more practical to go down the Intel Core 2 or Atom route?

LawlessPPC 01-29-2009 11:03 PM

couldnt find an atom board that had dvi or hdmi and optical audio. But the atom route woukd have been alot cheaper

LawlessPPC 01-30-2009 05:47 PM

ok I've now got the board chip and everything i need except case. I'm gonna build tomorow case or no case and let you know how it turns out might even drop a few pics.

lanceomni 01-30-2009 06:52 PM

I have never read that anyone has been able to get hdmi output to work? Though I have not really looked into it that much. ;)

LawlessPPC 02-01-2009 03:19 PM

hdmi should work fine its only an adapter and dvi carries all hdmi signal aswell as analogue. By the way its a no no for the graphics at the mo will look into it again l8r but its gonna be xp with xmbc on it for the mo but must say xmbc is pretty impressive and you can just put that on on its own. But i think the xmbc install is lacking some aceleration hence the basic xp pro install.

I think the most annoying part is the geforce 8200 graphics are supported according to the efi strings in circulation as this doeant exist as a standalone card. Not from my research anyway any help would be gr8

LawlessPPC 02-10-2009 01:07 AM

I tried the osx version of XBMC on my main system and it seems to run better than the win version. This truely is a nice piece of media centre software if only i could get that damn geforce 8200 graftin

I have an 8200-based mobo (in my Acer X1200). I have seen the EFI strings also, but also am not aware of any standalone cards. I think the 8200 is always IGP.

I tried setting 8200 256M in EFI string and setting my BIOS to always allocate 256M, but no dice.

Its hard to find any discussion of the 8200, and even the more popular IGPs (9300/9400) seem to have trouble with shared memory. :(

LawlessPPC 03-03-2009 08:31 PM

this is something i want to sort

laxattack 03-06-2009 04:00 AM

BTW instead of using XBMC try using Plex they are almost the same thing but plex is still being updated

Koonzt 03-30-2009 06:41 AM

or try this media software: http://blog.boxee.tv/about/

read into it:
".. boxee is based on the xbmc open-source project. we have been working with team-xbmc since early 2007. ..."

Hi Lawless,

btw: do you have any new results by the way?

Your project started very interesting!

due to the fact there are no graphics drivers for geforce 8200 it has put it on the back burner but i keep searching it currently has xbmc on it which i am very happy with but would love osx aswell as this

toxic64 05-14-2009 12:37 AM

hi all,
can't get ethernet to work with LawlessPPC on M3N78 -emh HDMi which is an MCP78S Mobo.
If you can find a way to have it working, tell me.
