I have very strange problem:
As it is advised, i applied marvins utility to my Applications folder trying to solv some stabilty issues with iDVD, and then some apps begin to crash ( Skype, Toast, frontraw...).These become ok after undoing of marvins patch. Patching was done in two steps. any ideas about this strange phenomenon? |
I never saw a reason for using Marvin's app. It never worked for me and all programs run fine without patching.

the only app i have had to patch is toast besides that i have not ran Marvin's app

I agree with naquaada and B.Hast... This app has almost lost its usefulness to AMD users as we now have Zephyroth to thank for the AMD Software Update. In the past, the only reason for Marvin's Utility was to make sure that if you updated your hackintosh using the regular Apple Updates, the cpuids would work out to allow AMD users to still run OS X and its Apps. Normal Apps don't really need this (except possibly a few like Toast mentioned above) as most are now Universal or could be run using Rosetta. iDVD could be Xslimmed to take out PPC code and languages you don't need, possibly making it faster and thus more reliable. IDK for sure though.

Thank u so much ppl for your reactions. Now i feel safe NOT to use it.

Dude! What do you think ASU is??? I'm fairly certain Zeph is using Marvin's (or the same patcher Marvin's uses) in ASU to do the file checking and patching. Gotta admit, ASU is MUCH easier though!
|
ASU uses like Marvin's Utility the old AMD patcher of Maxxuss as far as I know. It's only a kind of GUI, but ASU works without problems, Marvin's Util seems to produce errors.
|
@azazthot: i used marvin for wow, idvd, toast etc never had a problem with it. Probably there was some other problem with your system and marvin only got it worst :))
|
marvins utility always works great for me you do it to the whole drive by the way not just the apps folder.
Good luck |
Most of of programs working great without patching (including: wow, toast, ilife, iwork, skype, adium, idefrag ...), so i dont risk.
