iPhone OS 3.0 & iPhone 3GS

Well, probably many of you already know that, just want to notify those who missed it :)

http://www.apple.com/iphone/preview-iphone-os/

iPhone 3.0 with :

- Copy&Paste
- Horizontal Keyboard
- MMS
- AdHoc WiFi
- Spotlight
- And over 100 new functions + over 1000 new APIs for SDK ( already available )

Well, the thing is i`m interested in MMS messages. Apple said that this function will be available only on 3G iPhone due to "different type of gsm transmitter", do you guys know something about this ? I mean, what`s different there that it`s not possible ? Or maybe it`s just a trick to push users towards the 3G model ? Well, on jailbroken iPhones 2G we had MMS app - though it didnt work in "realtime", but rather like the Mail app, but still...

What do you guys think about it ?

Beta 3 came out a little while ago. Its comming along nicely although I can't really say that it is as much as an improvement that 2.0 brought along. Out of the current main improvements the only ones that I would use would be spotlight, horizontal in some apps & maybe copy/paste. I don't use my iPod for much work. I think that one of the main improvements will be that the apps that the devs make will be able to do more.

To be honest, i`m waiting for MMS and horizontal keyboard the most. Well, push notifications are hot feature as well. Well, we`ll see what will those "100+ new features" announced by Apple be. Also heard that 3.0 works faster and more smooth than 2.2, but i can`t say anything as i havent used it - 99$ for beta is a little too much for me cause i simply dont need it.

download the SDK cost?, no eh?

No, SDK is free of course. But if you want your iPhone authorized and activated to test OS 3.0 Beta, you have to get a paid subscription.

If is not this way, how can you test it?

Taisto 04-23-2009 10:05 PM

Well, actually you cant test 3.0 right now unless u`re registered there. SDK for 2.2.1 is free of course and includes iPhone simulator, but free SDK including 3.0 will be available later ( probably the same time as the 3.0 itself )

I'm coding some apps for fun to put in the app store so I saved up and paid the subscription. You get access to a forum, the 3.0 SDK, 3.0 firmwares (iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod 1st generation, iPod 2nd generation). From what I read you also get two technical support things. Not sure exactly what they are for yet.

So, can you provide us with some info about 3.0 OS ? I mean - are there any new, visible features which are not so well known ( known like for example mms, or copy&paste cause everyone knows about them already ). How about the speed ?
