Hangs on restart/shutdown
Please can I get some help with this?
I reinstalled iDeneb 1.4 for the third time! I Installed only the chipset drivers and some applications. I still get stuck on reboot/shutdown. The first time I gave it a few minutes and after a while I got a message saying "Syncing disks... killing all processes kextcache[15]: didn't act on sigterm. It eventually restarted after close to 10 minutes. I can't seem to install any kext files without having the reboot/shutdown work properly and I can't fix the reboot/shutdown without installing any kext files, or so it seems. Things I've tried: 1. Power Off Fix 2. OpenHaltRestart 3. I tried checking the version of both System and Kernel and they are both 9.6.0 Please help I've been trying to get this to work for over a week. |
Are you using a patched AppleHDA driver?
This can cause KP or can cause this... |
Umm not sure. How do I check?
EDIT: Upon further research I have a basic knowledge of what this AppleHDA is. I'm quite sure that I didn't install any patch of the sort. |

kextstat under Terminal.app |
Hi I was just trying to check the kextstat thing. I can't really tell if I have a patched one installed. All I know is that while installing iDeneb I didn't choose to install any patched AppleHDA.
Something weird happened though. I managed to reboot twice! The way it happened was I had all partitions unmounted except for the Leopard partition. And I had made sure through force quit that all applications where closed. So that allowed me to reboot but still it was an odd reboot. It was like the computer went to sleep and then it just started up again. I tried installing my Ethernet driver kext and unmounted all the partitions and closed all applications but I got stuck at reboot again and I still don't have a working ethernet driver. |

Sorry, I can't help you with this, I've got no idea what is causing it... |
I'm gna try the iPC distribution.
EDIT: Installed iPC. Didn't fix anything and my hard drive icons are now orange. |
newbie workaround
Hi, I eject all disks, force quit, log off and then hit the back button to restart or shutdown or sleep.... until I find an easier way :)
