NVdarwin alternative?

Hi,

I've been trying to use NVdarwin with my Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX (little old, but it works :P)
but upon boot w/ -v I just am halted by something like:

Code:

NVCARD=NVIDIA GEFORCE 5200 FX
then a few spotlight notifications, then nothing.

So.. my instincts told me to do what I always do, mess around with it. (At that point in time I didn't know NVdarwin was to blame for the unknown halting.)

I guessed it was something to do with the graphics, as I have experienced on my HacBook
Air.

I booted in -s and typed...
Code:

rm -Rf /System/Library/Extensions/NVdarwin*
typed exit and waddya know! It booted into the setup assistant w/ 800x600 no QE/CI graphics.

Is there an an alternative to NVdarwin?

I think NVKush and NVinject are just framebuffers, with means full res. but no QE/CI.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you!
~ Cleo :)

NVkush and NVinject are both injectors, the same as NVdarwin, so yes they will also work. But if you can, I would advise trying an EFI string instead as it makes your install more 'native'. ie. one less kext

OK thanks for your help Voyn1x. I will try an EFI string.

EDIT,

I've never actually used EFI strings. I've never needed to.

Do you have any idea what the EFI strings should be?

Thx,
~ Cleo :)

As per my post when I was working on my card:-

NVDarwin was succeeded by CoreVidia. I've had good results with CoreVidia. I guess you can try this out and see if it helps and then go to an EFI String from there.

That's the link to the Injector.
