Formatting PARTITION to HFS+
I'm trying to install iPC final release on:
Phenom X3 4580 Asus M2N-68VM nForce chipset. During installation, the list of locations to install to is blank, and thus I am now trying to format a partition on my first drive for OSX. Have XP on a second partition. Because I am not trying to format an entire drive, Macdrive does not work so please do not suggest it. I have also tried Transmac but the format option is only available in the full version. Don't really mind using diskpart as a last resort although am uncomfortable with it. Some advice please? open Disk Ultility, select the partition that you want to format, or make a new partition if you dont have one ready, and click on the erase tab and change the drop down window to Mac OS Extended(Journled) and Erase the partition. Now the installer will recognize the partition and you can continue the installation.

I tried installing again, but only my secondary (500gb) storage drive appears. The drive with my blank and even the NTFS XP partitions do not show up. To make things clearer:
Drive 1: Volumes C,E,F -C (150GB) reserved for OSX -E (50GB) stuff I'm working on -F (50GB) Windows XP Professional 32 bit Drive 2: Volumes D -D (500GB) storage Now, the Disk Utility does not show anything from Drive 1. Hope this helps with understanding the problem. Nicholas. |

I followed the instructions exactly, but diskpart threw up an error which says it cannot create the partition.
>select disk 0 >disk 0 is now the selected disk. Now, on this disk there are the above mentioned partitions, the first in line being the 150GB one. >create partition primary size=146000 id=af (146gb is stated capacity in Explorer) >Diskpart was unable to create the specified partition. Have also tried: >list partition >select partition 1 >create partition primary size-16000 id=af Still no joy. Help? Nicholas. |
Alright, I've wiped the entire drive, and partitioned 50 for XP, 200 for OSX. Diskpart has successfully done the id=af thing and I've set the 200 to active. However, the first drive still doesn't show up in Disk Utilities! What's going on?

Look here guys, I'm not finding this cold shoulder treatment the least bit amusing after half a day. Is there not a single person here that has any idea what could be the cause? It's not like I'm demanding a solution here. Any input or suggestion may have been helpful, but instead you all choose to leave a newbie hanging clueless. Way to keep the community growing.

Anyway, I have removed the second drive. Entered this into diskpart from the 50GB Windows partition:
DISKPART create partition id=af Left out the primary size=n to make diskpart use all the remaining space; read this somewhere. Got this: EFI - create an EFI system partition. EXTENDED - create extended partition. LOGICAL - create a logical drive. MSR - create a Microsoft reserved partition. PRIMARY - create a primary partition. I wasn't expecting this, but I've read on this forum also that OSX utilizes EFI, so at this point in time do I select the first option or just enter the size and so id=af ? The reason why I ask this is because when the partition is created using id=af from diskpart, I am unable to erase the partition directly. To do so I must boot from a Windows CD and enter Setup; kind of time consuming. The computer is idle and awaiting a command, would appreciate if you guys don't take three hours to post a response. If the missing drive is SATA trying switching the mode to legacy in your bios. |

Under SATA mode, I get 3 options: SATA mode RAID mode AHCI mode Where else may I find a Legacy setting? It's an American Megatrends BIOS. Nicholas. |
