SL on Compaq Presario C700 series. PLEASE HELP!

1 Attachment(s)
Hi, I'm trying to install Snow Leopard on my Compaq Presario C762nr notebook. I have a nearly perfect install of 10.5 on one partition. I've tried following different tutorials, but nothing seems to get me past this kernel panic (pic shown at bottom). I've tried everything, and I can't seem to figure it out. Can anyone help me?

Another issue is I can't create a patched DSDT.aml to boot with, because I always get errors no matter what I use. I tried fassl's GUI utility, but it ALWAYS tells me "Build Failed". I don't have any luck using a forced compiled DSDT.aml, just the same kind of panic. Someone please help!

What version of SL and which Bootloader

Since we can see a beta kernel I assume it's the version 10a380 . I also think you're using Chameleon RC1 or RC2. Maybe try with this SaCleoCheater's bootloader and also read his post starting with :

*****UPDATE 2*****
If you are up-halted by a Kernel Panic on boot, skip Step 1 and Step 2 and instead follow these instructions: ..................
If you still want to use RC1 or RC2 you have to generate an Extensions.mkext file

Read about that here ( scroll down to "Permanent boot" section )

Actually, I'm using 10A354, it was the only thing I could find at the time. I tried what you said, but I'm still getting panics. (pic below) Oddly enough, when I boot (-v -f), I get what's in pic 1, but when I boot (-v -f -x64), I get pic 2.

Would I have better luck using the 10A432 instead?

Also, how do I solve the issue with the DSDT patching? Here's a copy of my log from when I used the patcher:

Did you generate one for 10.5?

You could copy from that partition to SL.
Also, if you dont flag it to 32bit, it will try to boot to 64.
the -64 flag you wrote is for 64bit.

try with arch=i386

I tried SL before in with 10A380, and I got it to boot a couple of times with -x flag

I am also about to try, but I have am trying to find info if dual booting Leo and SL actually works or not, because I read around here that it is very dodgey to have two partitions with Extra folder (Chameleon)

Gurruwiwi 08-16-2009 02:34 AM

I remember getting the same error with the latest fassl patcher. Then I downloaded iAtkos v7 and in costumization, fassl's patcher is there as an option. It was pre-checked, so I left it there, installed perfect, but no terminal or GUI showed me what went on.

The last two lines of your dsdt log read

Compiling done, if it worked, you have now a patched DSDT in dsdt.aml
If the compiling went wrong, you could force to build it with ./DSDT\ Patcher -f (try this DSDT at your own risk)
DSDT is a bit confusing for me, I've read about it, but its a bit out of my league. Could someone please explain to me when and how is the DSDT dangerous? If its dangerous, how come people are doing it so candidly?

I tried booting with -x, but I get the same panic. And I can't generate a DSDT for Leopard either. I tried every option on the DSDT Patcher GUI, but I always get "Build Failed". I don't use a DSDT.aml on my Leopard partition, and I have 10.5.8 installed.

Yes, I'm sure. It still failed. And I tried using a forced DSDT, but the panic is the same.

Does anybody have any idea how I can boot this? I'm downloading 10A432 to see if that helps any.

I have to repeat myself : What about the bootloader ? Which version are you using ?
did you created an Extensions.mkext ? I was having the same Kernel Panic when I was using Chameleon RC 1 and 2 but no more with chameleon version1012
