Intel i7 as 3.61Ghz Unknown

Yes the speed is correct, but how do I fix the unknown part? I have SMBios.plist, but I dont see how to fix it there.

I read the other "wrong cpu info" thread but I did not see a fix there.

Well, editing "about this mac" mac for appearance if easy.

I am asking around, sorry for cross-posting, but the thread is similar... how do you check that CPU and RAM speeds are actually working at right speed?

I also want to find out how to make the system properly recognize it.

CPU, use Cpu-X

But I still can't figure out the "Just for appearance" I just want it to show my i7 instead of Unknown.

CPU-x extracts from binary I think... does it go through the OS?

I think it was OSXTools that enable you to edit "About This Mac"

I am talking about benchmarks, run tests to triple check...

I don't think that OSX86Tools works in snow leopard for customizing 10.6 About this mac.

huh. tht kinda sucks.

Yea, I tried using OSX86Tools and it screwed mine up. So you'll have to do it manually - it's really not that hard.

Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/AboutThisMac.strings

Here's a sample from mine:
Code:

"ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "3.02 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad";

Thanks! It worked!

How do you guys benchmark yours systems to tell if its working at right speeds?

DocShadow 09-06-2009 08:26 PM

I use Geekbench to see what the Score is after I tweak my System.
