Hi, is there any way I can run a repair installation on Mac like how I do on my Windows XP/Vista installation? Any ideas would greatly help. Thank you very much. =)

I don't think there is a direct way, other than manually installing pieces of the DVD,
But for next time I'd think about using time machine.

What if I want to reset all of my preferences?

with time machine just save before you make any and save afterwards!

does time machine get technical? I mean like does it also restore to previous preference state? Does it also restore corrupted files to those that may be uncorrupted?

kind of you can restore from any point in time that a backup was made. Single files/folders.
Some it won't let you and you have to do a full restore from that point in time.
