Still ironing out the wrinkles....

Ok, Let me explain the deal a little bit... installed iPC 10.5.6 Universal on My eMachine et1330 and updated to 10.5.8 with iDeneb universal update. Befor the update everything worked (Almost) the problem was that I couldn't reliably get into the system every boot. Maybe 1 out of 8 times and I ALWAYS boot verbose & nothing ever changed. Weird. Well at least now I get in 50% of the time. and ALWAYS if I boot first into safe using the -x flag and then reboot before making any changes. What I want to know is What exactly goes on differently when you boot using the -x flag? does it check and repair permissions? What can I add to my com.apple.boot.plist to make it do a permissions repair by default upon startup?
Also, I get a mDNSResponder error every time I boot and Can't find the file anywhere on my machine. I believe it should be in /Library/LaunchDaemons or / but it's not there. I'm hoping if I find and add this file to the appropriate directory it'll go away......
