a little strange that it works that way.... but may be when starting from Hd1 it thinks its the hd0 or something like that....

edit the vmx with editor

that's how i got it to work

use Vmware 6.5 (at least)
set up a new vm using FreeBsd (32 or 64 bit both should work)
network bridged
1 Processor (1core)
HDD (IDE or SCSI both should work,look...
