Try adding -f to the boot.plist file ...
Try adding -f to the boot.plist file
com.apple.Boot.plist
that will force the extentions to load at boot, You can also reinstall them with kext helper it may be a permissions problem

Boot using "-s" flag then type ->
/sbin/mount -uw /

I have the same problem with random crashes, sometimes involving the screensaver even though I have it set to never it still comes on!, I however am not willing to turn off my onboard lan as I need...
