[Solved][Zephyroth 10.5.2 Rev.2][Dual boot with XP on single drive]

Hi guys, actually I'm a newbie here and trying to install Leopard on my PC for the first time.

My destination is to <b>dual boot(maybe triple with Linux in the future) with XP on one single drive</b>

My partition condition:
One single drive
Partition 1: WinXP C:\ NTFS Primary
Partition 2: D:\ NTFS Logical
Partition 3: E:\ NTFS Logical
Partition 4: F:\ NTFS Logical
Partition 5: H:\ HFS Primary, Active

What I have done:
1. I've used diskpart on XP to creat a partition with id=af and made it active
2. Boot my machine with the Zephyroth Leopard 10.5.2 Rev.2 DVD
3. Use Disk Utility to Erase the partition created by diskpart on XP and install Leopard on that partition (particularly H:\ in my case)

Zephyroth's 10.5.2 Rev.2 has dual boot built in so I selected dual boot(Windows bootloader) in Customize option menu.

The installation went very well but after installation I clicked restart, the machine started with "Error loading system" just after the system POST and hang there.

What should I do next?

Had the same problem until i installed it on partition next to Leo. I mean C: with XP and D: with Leo - rest for media. I don`t know if it`s related in any way - but it worked for me. ( Personal opinion - why don`t you give Vista a try ? It`s really nice OS )

Did you remember to Erase the "drive" you installed to in Disk Utility (not repartition... just erase the volume)? I've found that by simply doing <b>create partition primary id=af</b> it wasn't creating a good starting base to install to. I had to let OS X reformat the volume to HFS+.

Read through this thread: <a href="http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=4749&hl=dual+boot">http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=4749&hl=dual+boot</a> and educate yourself on the different people's methods. Realize that some don't apply to you.

I agree with Taisto as far as the partition numbers being closer together.

using your Mac Install DVD, you can go into Disk Utility and use the Restore function to copy the data to different volumes on the same Hard drive. This will help you get them in a more logical order.

One last thing to try is the fdisk command in Terminal (running from your OS X install DVD).
using this command you can ensure the proper flags are set at boot so you can boot to the correct partition.
Use <a href="http://osx86.wikidot.com/known-issues#toc3">This Guide</a> to help you with that.

Solved

It seems that there's something wrong with the "dual boot" option built in the Zephyroth's 10.5.2 Rev.2 DVD

When I choose "dual boot -> Windows bootloader", the installer makes no change of my disk, no Windows partition activated, no chain0 file written in, no boot.ini modified.

During this time of installation, I've pick up the option "Single boot-> Darwin MBR bootloader".
After that I can now boot into Mac, and also I can get an OS select menu by pressing F8, which can make me boot into XP,too.

What's more, after logged into XP, I set the Windows partition active and use the chain0 method again. This time chain0 works perfectly.
