Bit of a noob question here, but i cant find and info anywhere..

what benefits do i get if i update to a new kernel

i run Amd with sleepKernel, have see posts for a Voodoo Kernel... why update

The Voodoo kernel includes a opcode patcher which takes the old problems of CPUIDs and makes them obsolete. now all you need to do when updating or running OS X on a hackintosh is to ensure the correct kernel extensions are in place to ensure your system's components work (audio, video, kernel decrypting, etc.)

The old kernels for AMD work fine if you don't want to update your system or if you have other ways of offsetting the CPUID issues during updates as well as the other kext-problems that plague hackintosh. However many applications for hackintosh have come out that circumvent these anyways.

So really, its up to your preferences. There are some advantages to the new kernel such as 64bit processing, but the advantage I like best is that I can run a retail install on an AMD Machine (with a few tweaks via a modified boot-132 bootloader).

hi thanks for the reply .... i have updated my kernel to voodoo ...

i have been using the replacement amd updater (Zeph's Software)to update to 10.5 pre kernel change, and i am wondering if i can revert to the original updater so as to goto 10.6 via the apple website ....

not sure if this is one of the benefits with voodoo kernel....
