Out The Box & Speed Rank Thread
Im proposing that we make a sticky thread or a page constructed of hardware thats supported directly by osx with no modifications at all and the hardwares speed ratings. Possibly adding a second one that lists official 3rd party solutions eg realtek wireless. These would be classed as needed to exist from a vanilla install. Who agrees or should i just give lanceomni a nudge?

I think the HCL should be the first point of contact for looking up hardware of any type (and yes the new versions .3, .4, and .5 all need more help being updated...).
I think xbench/geekbench scores could help with this but I don't think it needs to be turned into a "who's got the bigger penis?" ordeal (I hope you know what I mean... and don't mean ![]() ![]() |

what i was aiming at was a bang for buck comparision. eg £30 for a native graphics card with a good speed. The thing i dont like with the hcl is its so sketchy. As an example i found the gma950 to be supported out of the box without installing any drivers. Now where ever you read there are drivers or edited kexts for it and all i found was they messed the install up bigtime so when i did finally try without adding graphics divers it booted with full qe/ci. I wasted about 4 hours on this and after that thats when i started posting only install chipset drivers and see what works after doing all updates.

the other thing with the hcl is its all done with works with kalyway etc. I wanted a list with no intervention just plain mac install. So basically a catalogue of native hardware. Hope this clears my point up.

I understand what you are saying. Maybe you could create a new page off the WIKI here and make it something like the HCL but catered to your idea.
