Sound only works after reboot.

Hi,

I have an Asus AN8 SLI - deluxe with iPC 10.5.6.
Everything is working fine except for sound: it only works after reboot, ie, I start the OS X, then I do a restart, and everything is just fine.

The only way I can get it work for the first boot, is if I force the OS to load of all kexts... (boot with -f flag).

Can anyone help me?

Best,
João

What method are you using ? Taruga`s patcher or some custom kexts ? Maybe just add -f flag to the boot.plist as a kernel flag ?

I am not using any patch.. just used the kexts that came with the distro...

Adding the -f might help, but this way I guess it will be rebuilding the cache everytime I boot...

I wounder if there is any way to see when the OS tried to load a particular kext, and the result: error or sucess... this way I could have some hints on what to do to correct the problem. Maybe it needs some reset for the IO controller, I don't know... just speaking loud....

(But I will search for this Taruga's patcher...)

Try -F and if that doesn't help, then get a different driver for your sound, as the current driver is clearly not working properly.

Custom Hackintosh...AMD Athlon X2 5000+ (2.6 GHz) on GA-MA78GM-S2H...Linksys WMP300n Wireless...ALC889a sound...ATI HD 3650 PCIe...1 GB DDR2 RAM...320GB Western Digital SATA + 200GB Seagate IDE HDD...Rosewill DVD-RW IDE...Running Kalyway upgraded to 10.5.7...All Fully Functional

If your board is an Asus A8N-somethingelse board then you have maybe an Realtek ALC850 (A8N-SLI Premium, Deluxe, SE) or an ALC655 (A8N-E FM/S) audio chip. I added an suitable audio kext, works fine for on my Premium board. Installation instructions are included. But before installing, make sure your mainboard has the correct onboard sound chip!
