could osx86 have wonked my Acer X1200?
Edit: Reset BIOS.. unplugged.. removed battery on mobo and I am back to BIOS now.
Phew. Original text: Acer X1200.. AMD mobo, 8200 chipset. Been using this with Ubuntu for 2-3 months and decided to see how far I could get with OS X. I was really excited yesterday.. finally got OS X installed. Granted sound didn't work, video was not accelerated, but hey, it was a significant 1st step. So I had installed and booted, verified ethernet worked (surfed with Safari).. and left it up (doing nothign) while I grabbed a bite to eat... about 10 minutes later I noticed the screen had gone all white.. no more desktop. So I shrugged and hit the power button the machine and shut it down for the night... ok so its not stable I thought... shrug... I would tackle the audio issues today, and maybe even wireless. Tonite when I get home and power it on, I get no beeps (I'm not a huge PC guy, so I think I'm not even getting to POST), and the fan comes on in jet engine mode. I've done the HW reset of BIOS (jumper on mobo) and tried removing either (and then both) memory sticks. No change. So I'm stumped.. how to debug?? (and also, could this be a result of trying to get OS X running?) Please note I am NOT trying to trash osx86... it is however a large coincidence in the problem. (posted here and at insanelymac...trying to get whatever help I can) Last edited by zim2dive; 03-04-2009 at 12:31 AM. |

I`ve never heard of OS breaking the hardware and honestly i dont think that`s the case. There`s a case with overheating laptops with OSX - but it should shut down if it is overheated so still i can`t think of any reasons.
