OS X on External Hard Drive
Hi,
I have a 20GB external hard drive that I want to install OS X on because my laptop's HD is rather small and I have some difficulty partitioning it. I have a LG R400 with the following specs: - ATI X2300 Graphic Card (128MB VRAM) - Intel T2130 CPU (1.86GHz Core2Duo) - 2.5GB RAM - Atheros AR5007EG Wifi Card - Realtek Speakers I was wondering what distro of OS X would be able to give support for my wifi card (dont really mind not having speakers) and install without much problems? Which kernel should I use since someone said I shouldn't use Vanilla (I have downloaded iDeneb v1.4)? Which patches should I use with my laptop (I chose my X2300 driver, Vanilla kernel, tried voodoo kernel as well, and the cpus=1 fix patches but the install didnt work both times) How can I go about installing iDeneb v1.4 on a external HD, and getting it to install and boot from the external HD (so that I can use windows when I need to and when I want to use OS X I just plug in the HD - I can set up the BIOS to load from external HD first). Thanks alot, I am new to OSx86 - I have tried installing OSX on my laptop partition and it didnt work. |

Normally you should be able to use an external device, OS X even runs from an USB stick. But USB devices are very slow. Do you have eSATA ports on your laptop? Which model do you have.
The XxX 10.5.6 Final 2 image has drivers for your gfx card and wireless LAN. But we have to know the chipset. PM me for a download link. 2 Opteron systems: OSx86 10.5.8, Andy's 9.8.0 kernel, Asus A8N-SLI Premium, Opteron 185 o'clocked @ 2 x 2,95 GHz (2nd system 2.6 GHz), ATI Radeon HD2600XT 256MB Dual-Monitor 2x HP L2035, 4 GB RAM, Griffin FireWave as main audio device, Marvell + nForce LAN, Asus U3S6 USB3/SATA6 card, 5,5 TB harddisk, Firewire 800 card, Apple Remote + eHome IR receiver, 2x Wacom serial graphics tablet, Canon Pixma iP4700, Logitech Internet Navigator wireless keyboard/mouse combination. My Audio stuff: M-Audio Transit USB (default audio), M-Audio ProFire 610, M-Audio ProFire Lightbridge (34 channels) using Creamware A16 ADAT converter • MIDI: M-Audio Midiman 4x MIDI interface • Behringer Audio Mixers: Xenyx 1002, Xenyx 1002FX, Xenyx 1202FX, Eurorack UB1002FX, Eurorack MX1804FX, Eurorack MX262A • FX devices: Lexicon MPX100 DSP, Behringer DSP-1000 Virtualizer, Behringer MiniFEX 800 DSP, Behringer Multicom Pro MDX4400 compressor • RETRO: MSSIAH midi/sequencer/synthesizer cardridge for the C64 (Dual-SID), Steinberg M.S.I. Ok, so I tried to do an install on the external HD and I only selected the essential stuff in the customize part and i selected my video driver (ati x2300) and i selected my wifi (atheros ar5007eg). But when I rebooted after the successful install screen it got stuck on the apple loading screen for a very long time and never progressed. Please help. This is all in iDeneb v1.4. I didnt select a kernel either (there were 4 options: sleep, voodoo, speedstep and one other, not vanilla) nor a chipset, didnt know which one to choose.
Thanks ![]() |
