My 1 gig ram sticks only read 512mb

I've noticed that my ram only shows up as 512mb in each slot under the memory description in the system profiler when it should be 1gb, even though the hardware overview and everything else still reads correctly. I just installed the applesmbios kexts, anyone else have this issue?
