780G Chipset (SB700) fully working support
This will work on 780G chipsets with the SB700 Southbridge
This took me along time to get up and running and figure out. First and foremost I would like to thank SenVa for the actuall SB700.kexts He posted the correct files i just had to figure how to intergrate them to an osx86 install cd. I would like to point out that i'm a complete noob but very interested in mac on pc and i've never written a guide on anything before so i hope u can understand me if not pm me and ill be glad to help. K enough of that lets get on with it!!! Also I would like to point out that all dvd and hard drives show up after install all works fast and install is like 25 minutes!! What u will need 1. SB700 .kext (provided in post) 2. A copy of transmac or another program to put the files on iso 3. Kalyway 10.5.2 (i've not tried any other flavor yet so try at your own risk!!!) What to do 1. open transmac and on the top half of transmac open the file SB700 .kext you should see two files extensions.mkext and a folder Extensions 2. on the bottom portion of transmac open your kalyway iso. 3. go to HFS+ volume/system/library/ on kalyway 4. now drag extensions.mkext from the top half to the bottom half and replace the one on kalyway 5. on the top half go into Extensions folder there u will see two files drag them into the extensions folder on the kalyway replace any files that ask to be replaced 6. and there u have it you now have a kalyway install dvd with SB700 support!!!!! But your not off the hook just yet this MUST be installed in native ide mode so go into bios and make that change also i made a few other changes that seemed to help not sure if u have to though but this is what i did turn virtualization on and also ACPI to S3 and for some reason kalyway didnt like my ps/2 mouse/keyboard so i had to use the usb one but now to the install only other thing you need to do is boot with -f flag you only need to do this once and there you have it a working SB700 .kext if u have any questions pm me or post it sorry about how this was written this is my first guide if thats what you wanna call it!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!! I was'nt able to up my files here for a reason i dont know but heres a link www.esnips.com/web/nicholasblocksStuff |

Hello my friend ,
I extracted your Extension.mkext and I saw that there is strange thing. the thing is there are dublicated files. These files are AppleAHCIPort-1.kext AppleAHCIPort.kext AppleGenericPCATA-1.kext AppleGenericPCATA.kext AppleNForceATA-1.kext AppleNForceATA.kext AppleOnboardPCATA-1.kext AppleOnboardPCATA.kext IOATABlockStorage-1.kext IOATABlockStorage.kext IOUSBHIDDriver-1.kext IOUSBHIDDriver.kext for this file there is no dublicate but I found different when I see file name iokit-1.kext yeah finally I got IOKit.kext this file and it also seems dublicated. mach-1.kext Mach.kext. In this case I am wondering How you acheive the SB700 get work because I need it I want to know the mystery Let me know, can we go back to your kexts modification. Can you share what you did and Which Files add to mkext and what modifications that you applied to kexts files. if you share this , I think I can understand the mystery please remember all things |

Sorry for bumping this, but can you simply install the SB700 kext after installation? I'm thinking this could help me with some pokey hard drive loading issues.

the easiest way to get it working on a system that is running windows is to use Transmac to edit the iso file and include the new sb700 then rm the old extensions.mkext file... reburn this.
If you are already running mac os x, simply mount the drive with read/write capability using: Code:
hdiutil attach /path/to/your.iso -owners on -readwrite after either of these... boot with the dvd, then after installation you'll need to reboot directly back into the DVD so you can copy the sb700 kext file from the DVD to the Extensions folder on your HD. Repair permissions and then reboot into your HD. Last edited by nfoav8or; 11-22-2008 at 10:42 PM. |

I was referring to installing the kext after installing OS X if you already managed to. Thanks anyway. I tried an SB700-modified kext I found at InsanelyMac and now my computer is *way* faster.

I have installed from LawlessPPC-Leo-10.5.4-Phenom as well as all distro's other than Ideneb (that'll be the next try). Lawless installs fine, patched with NicholasBlocks kexts but first boot "waiting for root device". Can't get past there. If i try copying the extensions folder from DVD to HDD it gives Kernel error, and I dunno how to get past that one.
Also tried various boot flags, to no avail. I'm a software developer for my day job and have had Tiger and Leopard working on my old P4P800Se, but no success yet on the phenom! GA-MA78GPM-D2SH Phenom 9550 Radean HD3670 IDE dvd and HDD. Solved: cp -R /Volumes/USBThinggy/AppleATIATA.kext /Volumes/FearItself/System/Library/Extensions/ cp -R /Volumes/USBThinggy/AppleOnboardPCATA.kext /Volumes/FearItself/System/Library/Extensions/ cp -R /Volumes/USBThinggy/IOATAFamily.kext /Volumes/FearItself/System/Library/Extensions/ then chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/FearItself/System/Library/Extensions chmod -R 755 /Volumes/FearItself/System/Library/Extensions kextcache -k /Volumes/FearItself/System/Library/Extensions from DVD... Then I had the loop on keyboard setup, solved with: booted with -s option (in terminal mode) /sbin/fsck -fy /sbin/mount -uw / /var/db touch .AppleSetupDone passwd set a password for root account exit Turned on lan & sata, both working OTB, Audio may or may not have worked out OTB but patched with the 889a kext. No support for my gpu in OSX yet. Last edited by mcfuzzle; 12-02-2008 at 02:11 AM. |

Hi! I'm newbie at OSX.
Sorry for my english is bad. I have problem with install. When I set "OnChip SATA Type" to "Native IDE" I Can't find HDD in Installer, but when I set it to "AHCI" I can set at "OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type" to "As SATA Type" or "IDE", I set "IDE" and I can find HDD in Installer, install OSX, but it can't boot. Why I can't find HDD in "Native IDE" mode? Athlon x2 5000+ Brisbane Gygabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H (780G, SB700) 2GB Ram DDR2 800Mhz 640GB WD WD6400AAKS sata2 LG DVD-RW (ide) Kalyway 10.5.2 included this SB700 kext. 💡 Deploy cloud instances seamlessly on DigitalOcean.
