ideneb v1.4 only starts in safe mode on asus P5B deluxe

hey all
earlier today i installed teh latest ideneb release v1.4 on a machine

MB: asus p5b deluxe
VC: ati 2950HD
cpu: core2duo

installation went perfect and then i wanted to restart
apple logo comes up with spinning wheel and then i get a weird looking screen with blotches on it..
restarted the computer in safe mode and it loaded fine...no internet and no sound available in safe mode

i installed voodoo kernel, ICH chipset, ethernet drivers and video card drivers

does anyone have any ideas why it would load in safe mode but nor normally?

thanks in advance

My guess would be video, I have a nVidia 8800gt and when I didn't have the video correct it would boot into safe mode, low res, but when I booted "normally" it looked almost like black & white tv fuzz, if I moved the mouse there was something going on behind the scenes, but nothing useful... It happened after I used Software Update to go to 10.5.7, put back my voodoo kernel, and was using EFI strings for video. I don't know about the ATI drivers as I've only tried to install on my nVidia card.

I didn't get internet, I didn't even check for sound, but I don't think that was there either. I was rather focused on the darn video after I went and messed it up.

I ended up doing a fresh install of 10.5.6 iPC, updating to 10.5.7 via software update (putting back my kernel) then removing all the video kexts for nVidia and replacing them with the ones from 9f23installer, then setting up EFI. Dunno is there is a better way, but it fixed the black & white issue as well as a nVidia mouse issue.
