syslogd using big time cpu

Hey all, been a while. Mainly coz my Kalyway 5.2 install has been so stable that I've honestly been to scared to change anything!!! But now somethings come amiss. Using Logic 8 (a lot) whenever I have a large project (using about 50% of both cores) At times my CPU goes through the roof. iStat tells me that "syslogd" is chewing all the resources. I'd never even seen that use anything before so I'm a bit lost as to why it's reared it's ugly head now. After Logic is closed down it takes a few minutes for syslogd to settle then I can start again.

Anyone able to tell me exactly what this process is doing or point me in the directions to finding a solution?

Muchly appreciated, and liking the new site too, it's come a long way and looks great. Big thumbs up!

Had that problem before, IŽll tell you when I get home tonight cause I canŽt remember the solution.

ADD: I don't know what is the problem but I can tell you how to stop it, at least for a while...
You'll have to delete system.log and asl.db from /private/var/log and it immediately stops hogging the cpu. (if you can't see thoes folders press alt+shift+G)
I've read that this was an error of the syslog daemon and that it was corrected in newer versions, I can tell you that it's been a while since it happened for the last time in my system, maybe when I updated to 10.5.4.
Well, hope this helps, good luck!

Nice one, I'll give that a try now. I'll be making an upgrade to 5.4 very soon but in the meantime I've got too many projects on the go that need the stability and my time!
Will let you know if it's solved the problem for now.
Thanks heaps.
