AMD, software update locks up...

ok I have ideneb 10.5.6 updated with ideneb 10.5.7. Now I had this working in another install but forgot what I need to install to get SOFTWARE UPDATE to work and not start and then lock up about 1/4 of the way. I never had to use a switch (-v -x blah blah) before. Any help would be great thanks..
