jmicron ide controller (pata) on gigabyte p35ds3

so all my sata ports are full on drives that i can't install 10.6 on,
i do have 2 ide drives on my jmicron controller which are recognised by leopard (jmicron.kext and appleviaata.kext)

anyone have any luck getting their jmicron controller / ide drives recognised in 10.6 on their gigabyte p35 ds3?

actually turns out it's not so solved!
i think this (vanilla) kext is sufferring from the same problem that the previous leopard jmicron was where if you use more than 4gb of ram it crashes.

can anyone else confirm? i can consistently get a crash by scrolling through my itunes covers until my 4 gigs (actually 6) fills up.
zut!
