I am fed up with windows, and would like to try osx, but don't have the $$$ to buy a mac, can I run osx on:
phenom 2 x4 955
msi 790gx-g65
4gb patriot viper ddr3 1600
asus hd 4870 1gb dk
hitachi deskstar 1tb
also, i am considering going into video editing, and osx would be better for that

Well it should be possible, but running Snow Leopard is difficult on AMD (even more than running old Leopard), due to the lack of a Kernel that automatically patches your binaries but if you want to have proper use of your gfx card (including dual monitoring) Snow Leopard is the only choice.

I higly recommend you to put some money into a qualitative, stable mainboard with Intel chipset and an Intel CPU, if you are looking into using it as a productive setup.
