Before we begin to install Snow leopard On AMD system we need to prepare some file :

1. Kernel : Because AMD cant boot with vanila kernel..
for me the most success kernel is mach_kernel.test7 from modbin.
test7 its because its kernel number 7 i have test from modbin (all other kernel get me a KP)
you can get the kernel : here (http://rapidshare.com/files/270141107/mach_kernel_test7.rar)
2. Chameleon rc 2.640 pkg... you can get it from their website or : here (http://rapidshare.com/files/270145011/Chameleon-2.0-RC2-r640.pkg)
3. boot file to replace chameleon 2 boot file : here (http://rapidshare.com/files/270118258/boot.rar)
4. DSDT.aml for your system. Google it to find out how
you will need a cmos reset fix in your DSDT.aml, DSDT patch also can be use to make your HDA sound working with vanilla AppleHDA.kext
5. Some kext like:

dsmos.kext - required to decrypt encrypted binaries
NullCPUPowerManagement.kext - attaches in place of the real AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement which doesn't work right on PCs (kernel panic, cpu running hot)
OpenHaltRestart.kext - very simple kext that makes reboot and shutdown work on PCs
PlatformUUID.kext - sets the platform UUID so that you have a uniform UUID from the very start of the boot.. this UUID is used in your preferences files (among other things) and I think it is important for a clean install to have this right from the first boot.

you can get it here (http://rapidshare.com/files/270147654/Snow_Kext.zip)

Next Step Installing Snow...
(install from a working leopard)
1. prepare an empty volume with disk utilities n get the uuid of the volume in this sample name it "snow''

Make sure that the new volume's root directory is owned by the root user.
chown 0:0 /Volumes/Snow

2. Mount the installer
a. if you have a GPT (GUUID Partition Table)
mount the snow leopard installation dmg/iso
open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

b if you have an MBR partition u need to edit the OSInstall.mpkg or you can download : here (http://rapidshare.com/files/270169211/OSInstall.mpkg.zip)
u can restore the dmg/iso to an empty partition and change the Osinstall.mpkg its located on /Volume/"some volume name"/System/Installation/Packages/
run the Os install.mpkg

3. Install Snow leopard to targeted volume
4. Install Chameleon Rc 2.640 to targeted volume.
5. Replace the boot file
5. Place the new kernel in the root of volume
6. create an smbios.plist and place in to /Extra (in the targeted volume)
this is the dummy:

9. Place your fixed DSDT.aml in the root of targeted volume
10. if you have other kext like voodooHDA or sumthing you can also install it (i use dsdt to get my sound working)

11. Reboot your PC and boot from targeted volume

Good Luck....

And how You fixed iTunes?

aryajuanda
08-22-2009, 01:26 PM
After an successful install n boot into snow leopard i found some problem iTunes is crashing everytime..
the problem is the amd legacy kernel from modbin for snow leopard doen't have a on fly cpuids patch like voodoo based kermel so we need to do a cpuids patch.
u can use a Marvin's AMD Utilities to do this patch.
for Fix some problem u can run a cpuid patch on :

iTunes

/System/Library/QuickTime/
and
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CarbonCore.framework/Versions/A/

Spotlight
/System/Library/PreferencePanes/Spotlight.prefPane

08-22-2009, 02:38 PM
Finally, I have it working. :)

Problems:
-System crashes if I want to change Spotlight settings in System Preferences (I want to exclude Leo partition here).

IMPORTANT notice: SL will not boot via Leopard bootloader until you replace BOOT file on Leo partition too. This applies if you have Leo and SL installed on the same HDD.

Thanks.

nice to hear that its work for you maya77..
the kernel is 32 bit by default..
where did u put your ac 97 kext ?
are u installing after you get in to snow or before first boot.

the extenstions.mkext is different from leo you cant use kext helper to install some kext
Snow:
/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext

you can rebuild your extensions.mkext again if you place your kext in /system/librabry/extensions/ with terminal

kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions

make sure u have right permission

So far so good.

Problems:
-iTunes partially does not work
-Spotlight 'Privacy' tab in System Preferences crashes system
-Internet seems slower?
-Microsoft Entourage 2008 SP2 does not work at all
-Pacifist 2.5.2 does not work

I've tried all, from 9.5 to 9.8 Voodoo(based) kernels, but none of them worked.
Dmitri now works. Didn't worked on first boot, but now works just like Modbin test7.
Modbin 432 kernel also worked but I didn't noticed any differences compared to .test7.

So we must wait for someone to implement AMD-related patches into this. Andy?

Anyone else experienced problems with the internet? It definitely seems slower for me...

And one thing I don't like in SL - there is no "Download only" in Software Update.

Do you know if Dmitrik's kernel supports on the fly patching?

About binpatched kernel and source modded kernel:

on the fly patcher requires a kernel source from apple and a huge workaround. Since apple did not release 10.6 kernel sources yet, the only way to make the kernel work on amd is to modify it with a hexeditor. eg take the original kernel and patch it. A binpatched kernel will never support the "on the fly cpuid patcher". It´s not possible!

I'm glad to see you here. Really. :-)

And thanks for explanation.

This may be stupid question, but is there a way to make 10.0.0 kernel from 9.8.0 source?

Patch 9.8 kernel for SL instead of patching 10.0 kernel for AMD?

SL is almost useless on AMD without on-the-fly opcode patching. SSE3 emulation and 64-bit support on AMD are also important parts of Voodoo kernel.

pαuℓzurrr.

@maya77, just give it some days/weeks ;)
Once the sources are out im sure someone will make a new kernel with opcode patching :)

hey, so i've installed 10a432 on my friends hackintosh gigabyte p45udl. he has a 9600gt with 1024mb of ram. we got the bootup, sata, sound and networking working but can't get the video working.
i've tried creating a custom efi string with osx86 tools and putting it in boot.plis with the name, 1024mb ram and dvi-dvi. but no luck. i've also tried editing nvdav50hal.kext and nvdaresman.kext to put in the devid in the info.plist.

how did you get your 9600gt working? all you did was the efi string? how did you generate it? do you have any injectors? on leopard (5.7) his card works fine with nvdarwin injector.

i thought this card would be easy to install but efi studio and acpi patcher do not have prebuilt efi strings for it. the card is actually dvi,vga and hdmi i think but we'd be happy with just the dvi working.
thanks for your help

yes i use efi string t get my VGA working... just generate it with GFX tools in osx86tools or maybe u can use silent natit 64 bit for snow to inject your vga ..
if u use 32 bit mode some injector still working

Ok! This may be another silly idea. But would it be possible to load a cpuid patcher/simulator from a bootloader just before loading mach_kernel? I don't know if this would be possible as I'm not a programmer, but I was thinking QEMU, which can even simulate lots of non-intel cpu architectures using intel/amd cpus. I know tha QEMU is an open-sourced program that needs to be loaded UNDER an os in order to be used but.....
If there could be something like that, all amd users could run unmodified vanilla kernels. So I would like to have an answer from people who have the appropriate knowledge on programming.

About my system:

Hi

Thanks a lot of putting this worked like a charm. Couple of things though :

1. Xcode installation crashed the system during installation and then during subsequent bootup process. I had remove CHUD* from /System/Library/Extensions to get it boot again.

2. Pure 32 bit mode. So no apps can be ran in 64 bit more so no question of kernels and extensions working in 64 bit

3. Mouse and Performance was little firsky, so did a complete decrypt and CPUID patches and the performance was amazing. I must say Marvin utility still works great

Lets bring a 64 bit enabled kernel.

Hi.

I've tried following the guide on my machine (a Pentium D box), which incidentally works fine on Mac OS X 10.5.8.

I get the following error whenever I try to start up:

524

I am using Chameleon rc 2.640 with the replaced boot file. I have the following Extensions in the Extras/Extensions folder of my EFI partition:

AppleRTC.kext
OpenHaltRestart.kext
dsmos.kext
NullCPUPowerManagement.kext
PlatformUUID.kext
fakesmc.kext

I also have a dsdt.aml in the root of my drive.

I am using the mach_kernel.test7 kernel.

Whatever I try I can't avoid the error shown above. It seems to be choking on AppleACPIPCI every time. The error only shows up for a few seconds and then the machine turns off. When I restart the CMOS checksum is invalid and I have to set my BIOS settings back from default.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like DSDT issue to me... at least partly

Managed to patch the DSDT file, which has stopped it trashing BIOS, but I still get the exact same error and kernel death, so I still suspect something to do with AppleACPIPCI is the problem.

@ aryajuanda:

Is your system working without chipset drivers? What about these:

AppleAC97Audio.kext
AppleNForceATA.kext
nForceLAN.kext
skge.kext

These kexts I need for my hardware in Leopard. Will they work in Snow Leo, too? Interesting would be AppleThermal.kext. It only worked on 10.5.3, but if it was loaded my CPU is staying about 6°C/43°F cooler than as in 10.5.6.

yesy my system work without chipset driver, i use AHCI mode for my SATA HDD n my external HDD us using usb.
i have try to install it on my IDE HDD and is work with AppleNforceATA.kext... i try to place it in E/E or S/L/E working on both place.. i have not try the apple AC9, nForceLan, skge.kext because i dont use that kext.. but may be is working because in 32 bit mode u can use kext from leopard..

hope its help...

AppleAC97Audio.kext-> You can easily find a 64bit version of voodoohda.kext which is working fine on snow 32/ 64 bit for me.Try it out if you can and tell us if it does the job!
AppleNForceATA.kext-> As far as I know, there is no 64 bit kext for snow till now, so I'm using this leopard kext: http://darwin-ata.googlecode.com/files/AppleNForceATA.kext%28UNTESTED%29.zip which is working fine with my system on snow 32bit only.
nForceLAN.kext-> Here you will find nforcelan.kext for snow 32/64! http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=125569

Well I seem to have got past the AppleACPIPCI issues, but it still shuts down.

The issue seems to be this:

/dev/disk1s4: Can't initialize disk cache

I have tried booting into single user mode and it gives me the same error if I try to run fsck manually.

If I boot into Leopard it can run fsck_hfs -f over that that volume without an error.

have u try this:

Remount the root filesystem read-write: (mount -uw /)
Set the ownership on your filesystem root and extensions and create your mkext archives:

Can anyone tell me how to do it?? I have problem with iTunes and i can't fix it, because i don't know how to use AMD patcher.

Worked around it for now by adding memsize=4096 to the startup parameter. Any idea why my system doesn't link >4Gb ? Could it be a limitation of the modbin kernel? I am hoping there will be a source patched kernel for non-supported CPUs soon and that it will help this problem disappear.

yes this is a 32 bit kernel only.. but you can try to boot kernel n kext in 64 bit mode (use -64_bit on boot arg) but is not working for me :D..

first, thanks for the giude, it's straightforward and easy to understand. i managed to install the new kitty, and it seems to boot just fine with the modbin kernel, but i got the damn still waiting for root device error. i only got that error with some early leopard distros, and now with snow.

what i did:
i have 2 sata drives, and they both have a partition for osx. i use one partition for leopard on a day-to-day basis, and the other one from the second drive to test new stuff on osx, like updates, etc.
if i need to boot from teh second drive, i use F8 at boot time to select the boot drive. i found this easier than to mess with the boot loader. each drive has it's own bootloader installed. (chameleon)
now i wanted to try out snow, so i formatted the second drive, followed the guide (again, thanks), and got in intalled.
i tried to boot from teh second drive, no kernel panics, no errors, except the dreaded still waiting for root device.
i tried to disable ata in bios, i set the sata to only sata0, removed the first drive, so the only drive in the system was the one with snow, and set up bios to boot from this drive first, so i don't have to use F8, but still the same error.
i even tried with the newer boot file from chameleon rc3, with no luck.

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

@lemn - You have to add Your chipset support kext to the system before You can boot into it. If You had working leopard earlier - and have it now, cause You needed it - copy AppleVIA / AppleATA/VIAATA kexts from leopard Extension folder, to Snow Leopard Extensions folder. Make permissions and boot with -f. You should go through the error now.

replace the original kext with the one found here:

also replace realtek kext inside IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins

the solution was found here:

About binpatched kernel and source modded kernel:

on the fly patcher requires a kernel source from apple and a huge workaround. Since apple did not release 10.6 kernel sources yet, the only way to make the kernel work on amd is to modify it with a hexeditor. eg take the original kernel and patch it. A binpatched kernel will never support the "on the fly cpuid patcher". It´s not possible!

greets,
modbin ;)
Source codes are for a long time already, there will be a new kernel?:)

why do you want to restore the image to a hd? do you have 2 disks, one with leopard and another one where you want to install snow? if so, you don't need to restore the image, you can just mount the dmg image and follow exactly the steps from the first post of this thread, and it should work.

Hmm, how about going through the 10.5 install again and creating GUID partition table ? It has some advantages over MBR ( check Wiki ) and it would save You some problems with 10.6. Well, You might consider that i guess =)

Anyway, if You can't do this - any reasons - here's edited file :

Hi, Ive been reading this post since you started it a few days ago, My computer has an AMD 9950 processor, a SB600 chipset (which was very difficult to set up back when I installed Leopard last year) and an ATI 3870 Graphics card. I was just wondering... I have everything ready, the image file, chameleon etc. I wanted to know if Id need the kext from leopard for the SB600 chipset, and ive been looking for kexts for the 3870 for snow leopard but i cant find any... wat should i do?

Chipset and video kexts from Leopard work with Snow Leopard - at least with this method, using 32 bit mode. If You have chipset kexts working in Leo, they should work with Snow as well. So, give it a try =)

I was trying to double click on osinstall.mpkg and it seemed to be working fine, but then i went to customize and I unchecked the printer drivers, extra languages etc... but every time i do that and then click install it freezes... the spinning wheel comes up and It doesnt do anything... I had to force quit the installer and now im trying again... but nope... it freezes... do you know wat might be causing this to happen?

btw... im installing to an external GUID formatted hard drive

I wanna intall to a MBR partition tho... i have the mbr file but every time i try to replace it it doesnt let me. wat am i doing wrong?

Ok, it turns out i only had to restart leopard... Ok, its done installing leopard to the external drive, i had to change the kernel which is modbin's test 7. The guide says i only have to copy and paste to the root drive, dont i have to change the .plist file or something like that to tell snow to use that kernel instead of the original kernel?

colombianazo
09-17-2009, 02:40 AM
Ok, I just removed the .test7 so that it would load modbin's kernel... the thing is... when it starts to boot up and look for the kexts theres a kernel panic, i tried using cpus=1 flag, -x32, -v, and -x and i still get the KP. Why is this happening?

Taisto
09-17-2009, 02:46 AM
Boot into leopard, copy the mach_kernel.test7 file to Your 10.6 root folder, open terminal and set permissions :

sudo chown -R 0:0 mach_kernel.test7
sudo chmod -R 755 mach_kernel.test7

Restart. While booting, press F8 if needed, and in prompt enter "mach_kernel.test7" to boot using the new one for sure. If this works, You can edit boot.plist file and change kernel to .test7 there - this way it's easier to avoid problems with updates etc. cause You always have Your working kernel untouched.

Ok, I just removed the .test7 so that it would load modbin's kernel... the thing is... when it starts to boot up and look for the kexts theres a kernel panic, i tried using cpus=1 flag, -x32, -v, and -x and i still get the KP. Why is this happening?

are u sure u have boot from your snow?
have u replace the boot file? you can also use chameleon rc3 boot file..

can u upload your KP screen so we can see what cause that KP
try just boot mach_kernel.test7 -v (if you not replace the kernel)

Boot into leopard, copy the mach_kernel.test7 file to Your 10.6 root folder, open terminal and set permissions :

sudo chown -R 0:0 mach_kernel.test7
sudo chmod -R 755 mach_kernel.test7

Restart. While booting, press F8 if needed, and in prompt enter "mach_kernel.test7" to boot using the new one for sure. If this works, You can edit boot.plist file and change kernel to .test7 there - this way it's easier to avoid problems with updates etc. cause You always have Your working kernel untouched.

kernel should be 644 if i m not mistake..
for me i just place the kernel in root because i have chown 0:0 /Volumes/Snow

At its use with Р4 it is necessary disabler.kext ?

Fantastic guide aryajuanda (http://www.infinitemac.com/../../member.php?u=2066), it helped me a lot with my snow leo installation.

FYI everything is working great just like on my old 10.5.8, though I had to place appleac97audio, voodoops2controller and nforcelan kexts inside /s/l/ext, as they won't load from the extra folder. The video card is injected via EFI string and my realtek card is working right out of the box.
Everything feels snappier, faster, hope it lasts.

Thanks again aryajuanda (http://www.infinitemac.com/../../member.php?u=2066)!!!

EDIT:
After a couple of days I must say that it's really behaving more stable and faster than 10.5.8, the only issue I've found (and not a big one) is that I cannot set the volume with the slider next to the clock or the keyboard, it seems to move but it turns back to the previous state once I drop the slider. The strange thing is that I can change it from the audio preferences :P

Any idea???

This isn't so simple as it seems.i am sure if you go to itunes preferences, itunes wont show anything and also if you check Sysytem Preferences/spotlight under privacy tab it will crash the system.

These problems along with volume slider can be fixed using marvins amd utility by checking patch all binaries and select the System/library folder. If you check specific folders it will just show a "Unable to determine encrypted files...." message.

HOWEVER if you do this front row will stop from starting. Havent found a solution on this one yet.

Thanks for the answer maxx... I've patched every binary on /Library since my first boot and never had that itunes and spotlight problem, that slider thing is the only issue I had so far.
Also FrontRow is not working here as you said, but I never use it, so...

i have solved the itunes and spotlight problem with Front Row still working.I also found the location of the "volume slider" but patching it did not help.

The location is System/Library/coreservices/menu extras/volume.menu but as i said the solution is not there.

I guess we can back up the Front Row inside System/Library then patch the whole System/Library folder and then paste back the front row. This may work but i am not willing to try a reformat just for a volume slider in case it fails (i use front row)

Marvin found 2 cpuid that cannot be patched:

/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemUIServer.app/Contents/MacOS/SystemUIServer
/System/Library/Extensions/NVDAResman.kext/Contents/MacOS/NVDAResman

And 7 encrypted binaries:

/System/Library/CoreServices/backupd
/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/MacOS/Dock
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder
/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow
/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemUIServer.app/Contents/MacOS/SystemUIServer
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ATS.framework/Versions/A/Support/fontd
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/Metadata.framework/Versions/A/Support/mds

Should I decrypt these? Everything is working fine so far...

Maxx, thanks for your help again, as you can see the SystemUIServer.app can not be patched and I think (it's just an idea) that is the responsible for the slider issue.
My console reports this at startup:
SystemUIServer[1298] MenuCracker: Allowing "iStatMenusCPU".

Anyway, I'll better wait for Andy's patch as this volume thing is not a big deal.

EDIT: I've managed to make the keyboard volume keys to work. It seems controllermate needed to be updated for snow.
Still having the slider issue but it's even less annoying now that I can control the volume with my keyboard.

It is the systemuiserver BUT partially and here is what i mean.

I have successfully patched using Marvins AMD utility the SystemUIserver app and now the slider bar on the menu bar works ok BUT the volume slider that pops up when you increase or decrease volume from keyboard still stays the same.

However it is one step forward.

I am pretty sure now that if we back up front row inside Coreservices, then patch the whole Coreservices folder and finally paste back the front row into Coreservices that will solve all these problems while keeping front row working.I am saying this beause when i was patching Coreservices folder everything was working as it should except Front Row.

So, theoretically all we have to do is exclude Front Row from being patched.

I did a clean install yesterday and i am not willing to try this coz i cant stand another format.Anyone willing to try it? :)

I have already patched all the coreservices folder and still have the slider problem, but as I said before, I've managed to make the keyboard volume keys to work. On the other hand I cannot patch systemuiserver, don't know why but I just can't. This is what the patcher tells me:

File does not contain the reference bytes at vmaddr 0x34d87 (fileoffs 0xc3d87)!
0 of 1 patches applied

EDIT: done, I wasn't decrypting the binaries, just patching the cpuid, now I've done both and the slider is working!!
Strange thing is that I haven't decrypted any of the many binaries reported by Marvin and they are working fine so far. The encrypted files are listed above.

Thanks for your help maxx, and don't be afraid to patch the coreservices folder (except for frontrow of course) but perhaps you shouldn't run the decrypter, just the cpuid patcher.

Run Marvin's Utility like in the picture:
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/090924/Screen_shot_2009-09-24_at_15.21.29_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.png

When finished go to desktop AMD.Patch.Folder, the current date folder, and copy patches folder to the root of Snow drive:
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/090924/Screen_shot_2009-09-24_at_15.37.33_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.png

Reboot and boot with -s and type this:
/sbin/mount -uw /
cd /patches
./patcher ./cpuid.txt
reboot

And here is the Front Row.app fix
Copy to System/Library/CoreServices

Thx man.An alternative solution t this which i followed is what i said earlier if someone doesnt want to mess with commands.

Just patch the System/Library folder by selecting the last option from marvins AMD utility BUT before patching it back up the front row app inside System/Library/CoreServices.After that reboot and paste front row you backed up earlier int System/Library/Coreservices.

That will do the trick.

Nice feedback everyone!

maybe these solutions should go by the original poster as a workaround in the first page of the guide.

I have ati radeon 3850.
I've tried to create an EFI string using EFI studio and put it into boot plist, but I'm not sure I did it right.

With 10.5 i was doing that after succesful install, it wasn't necessery to have vga kext or EFI string before installing OS.

Worked like a charm, thanx !

I had to use a retail DVD of Snow Leopard tho, my previous attempts (using other SL downloads) were causing KP's on first boot every time. . .

Also, do you think it is stable enough to run as main OS, I mean is it as solid as Leopard 10.5.8? And is there anything else you can tell us about the modbin test 7 kernel like what features it may or may not have, advantages or dis-advantages we should know about?

!) Install this kexts in /S/L/E and delete the efi string...

2) or try to put the efi string in /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist not in /L/P/S...that's it

you can use PC EFI 10.5 boot loader and use GraphicEnabler feature for your VGA.. work fine for me... no more need inject/enabler kext..

I tried
Patching with "Marvin's tool" and all patching succesful

kexts in /E/E

ApplePS2Controller.kext
fakesmc.kext
FramebufferDisabler.kext
NullCPUPowerManagement.kext
OpenHaltRestart.kext
PlatformUUID.kext

I'm having a problem when I boot; it freezes at the gray screen with the apple. If I do -v or -x I ultimately get a black screen with no text at all.
Could someone please help me? I'm not sure what you need to know from me.

Still waiting for root device is almost for sure a problem with Your chipset. You have to add proper kext with support for it.

I have an Intel Based System, with Leo 10.5.8 on 1 drive and Snow Leo on another but snow Leo ain't booting at all ... Freezes on Apple logo, if I use -v -f -x or even cpus=1 I get a blank screen ...

My Specs :

My Rig is SSE3 capable but NOT x64bit and has 3 IDE Hard drives 1 SATA Drive and 1 IDE DVD Drive and is a full blown Intel PC with a Single Core PiV HT 2.8Ghz CPU and an Intel D865 PERL Mobo with no Network card, although I have 3 PCi Network Cards 1 Realtek 10/100, 1 Realtek Gigabit Lan and 1 D-Link 10/100 Nic. The PC also has 4GB DDR1 800Mhz RAM !

What should I do ?

Well, my chipset is nForce 430 and I already installed the AppleNForceATA.kext, so it doesn't seem like that could be the problem.

I just figure out that my memory isn't correctly viewed in system profiler
It should be DDR2 instead of DDR3 and 667/800 MHz instead of 1600MHz,
i think that's why some application like e.g. photoshop, illustrator
crash after opening :
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
I wonder how to fix this problem?

Edited:
I edited the info in smbios.plist but it doesn't solve the problem still have application crashing after opening

I have snow working great, but I have to change a kext in S/L/E at every boot after shutdown or else I have horrible system lag. Any ideas, as this is super annoying (always booting into windows, inserting a useless kext, booting into snow, and removing it.. every boot after shutdown...)

Successfully updated to 10.6.2. I patched the installer first using Zephyroth's AMD patcher.

Hello.
I updated from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 using 10.6.2 Combo update.
Volume keyboard does not work : SystemUIServer.app needs cpuid patching but I can't get Marvin's utility to work.
Any suggestions ?

-------
10.6.1 to 10.6.2 AMD working update :
Chameleon 2.0 RC3

I did not need to use Zephiroth's AMD Patcher 0.31.
I followed netkas.org to replace 10.6.1 mach_kernel, IONetworkfamily.kext (S/L/E), AppleHDA.kext (S/L/E), HDAEnabler.kext (S/L/E) and NullCPUPowerManagement.kext (E/E)

After a first reboot I got the network working but no sound
I used "Kext Utility" to fix permission and clear Extension cache.
After a second reboot, I got both Network, Sound.

I am still missing the keyboard volume function. I however can change the volume with the slider in the menu bar.
I had this problem with Snow 10.6.1 but I was able to fix it with cupid patching /System with Marvin's Utility
It does not work with 10.6.2 but I don't know why

Reading Your post - it seems that You actually boot using the vanilla kernel. Copy the test7 kernel to the / directory of the drive, set permissions, and during boot - write the kernel full name when prompted, to make sure it boots using the one from modbin. com.apple.Boot.plist sometimes reset it's values so it might actually boot using the original one - in this case it will reboot instantly after loading kexts.

I officially give up for now :D

I tried installing SL using all the AMD methods available on the net, following the exact details, but I always end up with KP, both with modbin and qoopz kernel. Vanilla kernel gives me only reboots.

I guess I'll have to wait for a better kernel. I patched DSDT, fixed RTC, edited boot plist, tried various kext combination, but it didn't work.

I see on osx86 project that one guy managed to install SL to the same MBO that I have using this guide, but I had no luck.

Yes mate im in the same boat as you and by the looks of it you have the same motherboard as me.

I have 10.5.8 running fine at the moment but i cant for love nor money get 10.6 to work!

I have tried everything like yourself.

GUID install
MBR install with retail disc resotred to usb stick and the osinstall modified put on it
Installed to 2nd partition hard drive
Installed other kexts removed them
Booted with everyflag combo known
And i either get a crash at Jmicron OR i get a kernal panic
and when i reset my pc all my bios settings have gone to defaults so i guess for now ill stick with 10.5.8 till 10.6 is made more viable.

I'm on a perfectly working 10.5.5.right now, even sleep works great for me.
So, I'm really not in a hurry to get SL working to have a OSX on PC expirience, but it would be nice to have a working SL.

My problem is definitly kernel, what ever I do or try I end up with KP. I have no BIOS reseting problems, though.

Hopefully, there will be a smoother non vanilla SL kernel in a month or two. With few more updates SL will probably only get better till then :)

There are two things keeping you from a working system. One is that the Phenom II X2 550 runs at 3.1 GHz. OS X has a problem with running with a higher multiplier than 15 on AMD systems and will instantly reboot after choosing the OS in Chameleon. Set the multiplier to 15 (3.0GHz) and you should be good. The other thing is having more than 4GB of RAM. Use the switch "maxmem=4096 -v" without quotes in your com.apple.Boot.plist or at Chameleon when choosing the OS. It isn't in the graphical options, but if you just start typing you'll see it at the bottom of the screen. Also make sure that you're using AHCI mode for all SATA controllers until you get the system going.

I personally have a Phenom II 550 and a GA-MA790FX-DS5 (nearly the same chipset) and used these methods to successfully boot Snow Leopard.

Good luck.
