10.6.6 update - blue screen

I've applied 10.6.6 update, for the most part it seems okay with no 'serious' errors.
But I'm getting a blue screen just before the system brings up the desktop.

It boots in safe mode fine.

I'm using darwin kernel 10.6.0 in 64bit mode, all kexts are 64 bit.
Was working fine at 10.6.3, in fact it was very a very fast system too.

Graphics are basic 7300LE, I didn't have it working quite right using efi string. It works but QE isn't enabled and changing resolutions from 1024 -> crashed the system.

Nothing significant in the error logs.

Any ideas? I know there have been others with this problem with 10.6.6, even proper maccers.

Asus P5B-Deluxe (ICH8/P965)
Core 2 Duo E7200
GeForce 7300LE
Velociraptor WD150

Cheers
Danny

boot with arch=i386. You can't run in full 64bit using any GeForce 7 series card.

Hi,

It works on 32bit.
So does this mean my gfx isn't supported on 64-bit?

Yeah, sadly, Apple did away with that.

p5b deluxe and Snow Leopard 2xGFX 7200GS

Hi

Im using a p5b deluxe installing using iAtkos s3 v2 then upgraded to 10.6.6 - successfully fully installed (execpt my Broadcom Wifi - which I lost doing the Combo update, but that is something I need not worry about just yet).

My problem is that I cannot use 2 nVidia 7200gs cards together, it always gives me a blank screen just after the initial grey apple boot logo if both cards are installed at the same time. It works, of course, if I remove one of the GFX cards.

Also I would like to ask you; You state all your kexts are 64bit, can you send me links or the kexts you are using please? As after I run "myHack" it always reverts back to arch=i386 otherwise my GFX do not display at 1920x1200.

I have tried to apply various DSDT patches using "DSDT Patcher GUI" to "retail 10.6" and the iAtkos s3 v2 installation - but I simply cannot get it working after many attempts.

Any help is much appreciated. please ask if you need more clarification understanding the issues.

Hi,

I've since purchased a GeForce GT220 to get around my problem and all is well.
I'm using HDMI to my Sony Bravia which I use as a monitor and it looks fine.
The VGA port also works, the DVI not.

I'm simply using the GraphicsEnabler=yes option on boot to enabler my graphics.
I've also upgraded to Chameleon 2 RC4.

As far as kexts are concerned, I haven't anything special nor did I have to do anything to get 64 bit working.
I installed my system from scratch to retail dvd using EFI 1.08 for intel, then simply updated to 10.6.6.
For marvel lan 88E8056 I used appleyukon2.kext modified to contain the device id.
I haven't tried to get the other lan 88E8001 working yet.
Nor have I attempted to get my onboard sound working because I use an external sound card from Roland which works natively.

Tell me which kexts you have that aren't 64 bit and I can upload them.

Hey,

Thanks for getting back so quickly!

Which kexts are you using for power management? shut down, restart and sleep? Also are ALL your USB ports working? I'm having issues with my front two, they work sometimes and stop at others! Very random! Do you use wifi or just Ethernet?

myHack fixes many of these issues any but my main issue is having 2 GFX acrds working at the same time as I have 3 displays, 1 for arrangement and 2 for my mixer (just makes it easier viewing).

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

To be honest I don't use sleep.
In my extra folder I have;

sleepenabler
ElliotForceLegacyRTC
EvOreboot
NullCPUPowerManagement

However, some of these aren't needed now, but I haven't been brave enough to start removing them yet. Importantly, I also used Auto DSDT Patcher to create my DSDT.aml file which I dumped in root.

It had the patches for the exact P5B-Deluxe WIFI model, though I don't use WiFi.
So with that DSDT and if you get the very latest Chameleon I think you can remove NullCPUPowerManagement, EvOreboot, Sleepenabler and with the DSDT possibly the ElliotForceLegacyRTC too.

With that said I haven't moved to that stage yet because I got my system running sweet as is and although new updates might break it, I have every intention of getting everything into the DSDT that I can. Because the system has been running so good I started using it and frankly haven't had any interest in playing around anymore at present. It was definitely worth the time it took to get it working to this point, I'm loving this hack.

Sounds like you are making a DAW, well thats something I'm interested in too so that I can rig up my mics and guitars etc.

My usb ports seem fine. Well at least I know the back ones are 100% and I've connected the front two ports up to the motherboard USB headers but I can't remember which set, I believe there are two usb headers on this board from memory. Regardless, the transfer rate when transferring data from usb/external hard drives to the system and back is incredibly fast compared with that shit from Microsoft. I ran Windows XP Pro x64 previously and the usb transfer rates are in a class of their own

So if not already, get your DSDT.aml from Auto DSDT patcher and use the P5B-Deluxe premade dsdt, then dump it in your root of the drive. This may be why you usbs are not working 100%.

I'm tempted to have a play around again since you got me replying here so I might try and get some stuff improved over the weekend. I'll keep you posted on that.

Danny

Furthermore, here is what the DSDT fixes.
You may have to look up what each one does.

DTGP
HID/CID
INTEL AHCI ICH8
IRQs
RENAMED DEVICES
SBUS
SHUTDOWN
LPC
REMOVED DEVICES
FIX WARNINGS
