10.5.7 black screen after sleep

Hi there...
i am running on 10.5.7 updated from IPC10.5.6.
darwin kernel 9.7.0

my specs are:
gigabyte EP35-DS3 F3 bios
Intel quad 6600
6 GB RAM
ATI HD Radeon 3650

my system goes to sleep via Apple-Sleep
Fans turn off - monitor turns off
Everything fine

When i hit the power button to turn the system on, it starts fine, but the monitor remains black... no DVI-Signal.
I have to shut down my system via keyboard - ctrl - eject - enter
That is a problem i never solved since 10.5.2

i tried everything around the solutions here:
- superhai USBEHCI
- different BIOS Settings
- sudo pmset autorestart 1
- some patched kexts
- voodoo kernel 9.6.0

none of them worked for me...

where is the problem ?
there seem to be a solution i didnīt test, because i dont have the option "restart after power failure" in my energy savings in the system settings...

how can i gat this option to be displayed ? which are the kexts that displays that option ?

Pls help to wake my system after sleep.

cheers bullys

The same board as mine and the processor; and if you were born 1974 then lots of things in common here ;-)

Sleep was working fine for me on vanilla installation, just some fake plists, both automatic and manual sleep. Only 'problem' i had was to wake up from sleep; had to press power button to wake up. Solved that recently by tweaking dsdt some more with usb tweaks. Now it can wake (from deep sleep) with keyboard press or mouse button press (won't wake up just on mouse move) but its still an achievement. Both keyboard and mouse are USB.

I had no black screen issue even before the last usb dsdt tweaks with my 8600GT. What are you using for HD3650, is it an EFI string, some injector? With proper efi string we could replace gfx section in my dsdt and i can send it to you so you can try that option too.

Regards,
mil@nca

yes born on 1974
that would be really nice if you could do that...
my graphics card works with the patched drivers from ATIX2000 and the new Netkas Natit.pkg. Other Method never tried.

Yesterday i messed my system up with tweaking DSDT. I am a noob on this.
In another board there is a tutorial how to edit dsdt.dsl with the right USB Device IDīs but i think i didnīt do it right. i managed to edit the dsdt.dsl but dont know how to compile it to *aml.

My USB devices are shown as PCI Device in about this mac...
I have the apple wired keyboard and a wacom tablett mouse. both usb.

hope very much to hear from u, so that i can manage to get my baby to sleep

cheers bullys

I tweaked my dsdt some more and now i have perfect sleep, system wakes up on mouse movements. I will send you my dsdt which you can use, i am also preparing a full DSDT patching guide.

Regarding you system i think it is something related to your graphic card. I have 8500GT run from dsdt. I don't know much about ati 3650, i wanted to buy one when my 8600GT died but i didn't, i will upgrade my video card once the SnowLeo is out. Is there an EFI string for ATI3650? Does it work with native drivers without modifying existing ones, opengl.framework etc? Let's figure it out and i will insert it into my dsdt and we'll see how your system is going to behave then.

I have the same problem with my laptop. Tried to create an EFI string but it never worked ( or im doing it wrong, dont know ). System wakes up ok, and works ok ( i can hear Adium etc. ) but gfx card doesn't wake, as guys suggested before - probably the injector unloads itself during sleep.

Taisto, yes, very much possible that injector unloads itself during sleep. Maybe you should also try running gfx from dsdt.

bullys1974, how much ram does your card have?

hi milanca,
just wanted to ask about your fixed dsdt file u were a little faster
My ATI HD 3650 has 512 MB RAM. Device ID is 9598.
Its a very tricky card to run. I had only success with the patched drivers ati2000 and new netkas natit.pkg
if u like i can provide the efi string, being at home in about 2 hours.

one more question:

u own the GA P35 ... mine is the GA EP35... will this work properly with your patched dsdt `?

regards bullys

Hello

I am not addressing your concern in this message, but providing some information that might be relevant.

I have a MacBook (in addition to my Hack). The MB runs 10.5.7. Ever since the upgrade from 10.5.6, I am having sleep issues on this thing. S3 sleep works fine. S4 sleep (hibernate) works the first time, and freezes the second time.

Lot of people are reporting this bug. See for instance :

http://discussions.apple.com/thread....05687&tstart=0

Others report the black screen problem with the mouse pointer issue :

http://discussions.apple.com/thread....26792&tstart=0

And then there are the overheat issues with some MBs.

All I am saying is that 10.5.7 is not a good update, and appears to have laid an egg. Expect Apple to release a fix - do not necessarily blame the Hack setup for this.

Hope this helped.
