can't burn cd's or dvd's

Installed using lawless 10.5.4
updated to 10.5.5 with the leo4all update if i remember correctly...
used eureka's appleatiata kext to increase speed (prior to upgrading any of this, i didn't have the support)
then used applehdapatcher to get sound for alc888
lastly, used nvinstaller/efi strings to get support for my 8800gt.

Last thing on my agenda is to get burning to work. Any ideas?
Info:
Biostar ta770 AMD 770 chipset with SB600 southbridge
4 gb ddr2 800
EVGA 8800 gt 512
Samsung 223q SATA dvd burner

Any suggestions would be spectacular.

You wont be able to burn with SATA dvd drives at the moment. Its not supported with any versions of Leopard (Leo4All, Kalyway, Zephyroth's, lawless etc). The only workaround to this would be to purchase a SATA to IDE converter from eBay and that can get you to burn. But I had purchased a converter as well and I got the drive to recognize in Leopard but I Toast kept on crashing for some reason. So I'm back to using an IDE DVD drive.

My friend has basically the same sata drive on his Intel hack and can burn with no problems... Is this an AMD issue?

yes, im pretty sure this is an AMD issue and has to do with the kernal

iMac ::: Mac OS X 10.6.1 ::: Intel Core2Duo 2.93GHz ::: NVIDIA Geforce GT 120 256MB ::: 4GB DDR3 RAM

Milanca Project ::: Mac OS X 10.6.1 Retail ::: Vanilla Kernel ::: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHz ::: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 256MB ::: 4GB DDR2 RAM ::: GIGABYTE GA-EP35C-DS3R

No burning problem at all with Leo4All v3. Updated to 10.5.5 though, but i had no issues when it was originally 10.5.2, with sata dvd-rw of course.

@CyCLoBoT, can't you use your sata burner with your Leo distro? That was the only reasoni switched to Leo just to have the burning support. It's probably something related to your chipset / sata controller.

There are certain chipsets that don't allow SATA burning... most of them are found on AMD boards. NForce is the biggest one out there that is widely known but there are others too. I have to use an external drive in order to burn since I have an NForce4 MCP61 chipset and my board doesn't have IDE either (IDE PCI cards don't work in OS X... believe me, I've tried numerous)... (although if anyone finds one, let me know :-).

Well, that's odd, as I'm not usin NForce anything. Also, it mounts discs no problem, it ejects using the eject button. I'm even using 10.5.5. So yea, could it be the kernel? Kext? anything? I'm using modbin 9.4 btw if that is any help...

I also have sb600 chipset and toast is working fine here, on leo4all distro. I haven't tested lawless' 10.5.4 yet. It didn't work for me on 10.5.2 by zeph (burning).

@nfoav8or, yes man nforce is causing many troubles on osx. It's well known that disks also have much lower speed. But as there are new macbooks now with surprisingly nforce chipset there is finally a solution to guys with nforce chipset. Build number for macbook installs is 9F2114.
