inacative memory

My Mac has 8gb of ram and it runs stable but the only problem is it puts all my ram as inactive until i need to load something. What this does though is when it loads whatever program it lags the crap out of my computer until it puts more into active ram.

Is there anyway I can have my active ram be more right away? instead of like 1gb?

Thanks in advance.

I think you might be a little confused on how the system manages memory. I also think you might have too much memory for your own good... but I could be wrong on both counts.

Maybe posting the output from

uptime
top

when this is happening would be helpful.

ya, 8gb is a lot of ram but its great. No, what I'm trying to say is that it used to activate all my memory and leave it open for allocation. now its just giving me little bits and then when i open a program giving me more but lagging me out in the process. I will try and get the output.
