Network connection dropping

Hi!

my network connection drops after a while using leopard 10.5.6.

I'm using viarhine.kext on a asrock 4coredual motherboard.

A possible workarounds is setting cpus=1 at bootup, but this isn't relly an option.

Any hints?

PS: Sorry, for crossposting, but maybe anybody here has an idea

Hi, yeah, it is ok. Search function in the forum is working great so its great to use it always when possible, heheh, great for you, sooner to a solution ;-)

So did you find a solution for viarhine? I have no experience with this network. Although, when its not a laptop and you don't have to struggle with this network all the time why don't you just replace network card with some 8139 or 8169 which work OOB and have great support. Recently i have seen in one local computer store realtek8139 for 3eur, damn cheap.

Hi!
i'm still getting random network dropouts, also with the new Realtek 8139-card.

I've noticed, there are several different kexts for this card:
PCGenRTL8139Ethernet-1.2.0.zip is working best for me (even in Leopard), the other kexts (AppleRTL8139Ethernet from Stormdrake, or from a different version somewhere else) show the dropouts earlier.

The problem is also noted here or here.

I'm gonna try the kext from Tiger or buy an Realtek 8169-card.
The origin of the problem seems to be a tcp buffer issue. Maybe the commands
Code:
ifconfig
netstat -m
netstat -s
nfsstat -s
sysctl net
sysctl kern.ipc
may help, hmm...

I had to buy an Apple Ethernet USB adapter, seems to be better now (still some drops, but only a few times)
