updating lawlessppc 10.5.4 to 10.5.7?

alright so after hours of grueling research/reading/installing and getting no responses at all from the threads i've started here, i finally have lawlessppc 10.5.4 running on my system. the specs are in my signature.

now my next goal is to update to 10.5.7. I'm not sure how to do this at all.

i came across this thread but it describes going from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7.

I've read about needing seatbelt.kext once you get to 10.5.5. from what i understand i'm currently running modbin 9.4 kernel and not voodoo (which is also from what i read, the kernel i want for 10.5.7?) can i install 'andys voodoo 9.60 package' right away or do i need to get on voodoo 9.5 first???

can i go directly from 10.5.4 to 10.5.7 or should i do it in increments? if i use osx86tools and backup my extensions, then restore after going to 10.5.7 everything should generally be ok?

any advice would be appreciated

i got the voodoo kernel 9.5 added it. patched the combo update w/ zeph's patcher. installed, booted it all worked great. changed my seatbelt kext and it was done.

i went straight from 10.5.4 to 10.5.7

ok i just installed voodoo 9.5. do you mean i use this patcher on the combo 10.5.7 update? then i just install it, reboot and thats it? and by seatbelt.kext do you still have to use 10.5.6 version?

i'm also a little confused about a few things...

if you're running an intel based machine and have voodoo kernel installed, you should *generally* be fine updating via software update, because the voodoo kernel patches on-the-fly is that correct?

if you're running an amd based machine and have voodoo kernel installed, you should still patch the 10.5.7 combo update first with zephyroths amd patcher 3.1 is that right?

and in regards to seatbelt.kext changes and from this sticky, assuming i boot into 10.5.7 successfully after upgrading, since i'd still be using voodoo kernel 9.5, that means i should stick with version 10.5.5 version of seatbelt.kext?

Hey, sorry i wasn't around.

Let me answer these questions for you.

Yes the patcher you linked. DOWNLOAD the combo update from apples website then patch it. And I have to seatbelt kext, check your inbox.

I have 2 intel machines that use the standard vanilla kernel. When I updated those all I did was change one line for the dsmos.kext and thats about it. W/ amdi you need to do a bit more. Yes voodoo does opcode patching, but you still have to watch out. NEVER do a system update for a new version w/o trying it on a backup setup first.

Now, after you patch 10.5.7 w/ zeph's patcher, install it. this should keep your voodoo kernel as the base kernel, but make sure you have a mach_kernel.voodoo in your root directory. It will restart twice after the update and on the second time it should boot. Just to be safe on both restarts i always boot w/ options and type in mach_kernel.voodoo

After your second restart you should boot into 10.5.7, if you come across any errors, please tell me what the error is and I'll see what I can do.

hey hey, thanks for the info and for seatbelt.kext file.

so i went ahead and patched 10.5.7 combo update. installed it and rebooted. it kept freezing at this line:

"nvethernet::media changed: link down"

so i just deleted any nvidia related kexts from /extensions and tried again. voila now i'm in 10.5.7!

thanks! i JUST booted into it so i don't know if i have mounting dmg issues yet. we shall see!

damn. that seatbelt.kext replacement did not work. had a kernel panic when trying to mount a dmg. still unclear as to which version of seatbelt i should be running?

i'm now on 10.5.7 and 9.50 voodoo kernel. does that mean i should be using the version 10.5.5 seatbelt.kext as outlined in this sticky?

EDIT: ok so i ended up downloading the 10.5.5 version and mounting now works!

alright so after about a day of usage i'm considering going back to 10.5.4. there are way too many annoying little things happening in 10.5.7 and i personally don't think the upgrade is worth it to me. i've spent way too much time getting hackintosh to work in the first place let alone having to now deal with the following issues:

so far:
every time i boot up, it keeps finding a 'new' ethernet connection in network preferences. the internet works fine each time, but its annoying.

my usb webcam has stopped working in 10.5.7 using iusbcam 2.2.5 with ichat. it just crashes when trying to open a video chat with someone. in 10.5.4 it worked completely fine.

my mouse all of a sudden randomly stops working at random intervals. i have no idea why. i just have to unplug it and plug it back in to make it work. this never happened in 10.5.4.

i can't even open 'system profiler' anymore. just says "There was an error while gathering this information." worked fine in 10.5.4?

time machine has stopped working! i tried the efi flag/add to boot 'fix' but it didn't work for me. this is a HUGE issue for me. worked completely fine in 10.5.4.

other than not being able to use safari 4 (i use firefox anyway), i don't see any legitimate reason for me to stay at 10.5.7. just giving some feedback on my 10..5.7 experience so far.

System freezing when trying to patch

Also trying to update 10.5.4 to 10.5.7

Specs:

Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Phenom 9750 Quad Core 2.4GHz
2x 2GB Crucial Ballistix Red
EVGA GTX260 896MB

After applying the voodoo kernel 9.5, my system panics whenever I try to patch the combo update.

WHats going on?!
