What distro supports IDE DVD booting?
I am running the GA-EP45-DS3L with 2GB DDR2 OCZ Fatal1ty 1066 Ram
320GB SATA hard drive and a Samsumg Lightscribe IDE DVDRW. Is there a Distro out there that supports IDE DVD drives? I really want to install! Thanks a lot for any help! |

No, I am using Kalyway 10.5.2, Leo4All10.5.2 and I think Zeph 10.5.1 and none of them boot. They all say waiting for root device. I have a SATA hard drive but an IDE DVD drive. They won't boot and I have no clue how to patch them with the Jmicron patch so I just wanted another ISO source.

I will try that tonight. Do I need to set it as slave on my IDE ribbon or just in BIOS? Also, should it be slave to another DVD drive or Slave to the Hard Drive?

change the jumper settings. Look on the back of your DVD drive and look at the jumper settings (next do the p-ata cable) and then just move the pin to the correct slave settings.

normally all distros boot from dvd BUT every one has a slight different "driver" / hardware support. every non-apple computer is assembled different and hence getting osx to run is trial and error. as mentioned above, in your case it might be as easy as jumpering your drive different. btw. as you are running an intel hack, i would not use amd distros like zeph .. Okay I will try this as soon as I can. I really appreciate all of the help. I am going to try it with Kalyway and Leo4All. I will let you know if I need anything else.

Okay, I switched the IDE drive to slave and still get the "waiting for root device" after a bunch of Jmicron crap. Is there any distro out there that will just boot from an IDE drive?

As Zuz said it could be a hardware incompatibility that is causing this. All distros boot from IDE/ S-ata dvd drives however if the hardware isn't supported, it will not work. What are your specs?
