GUIDE for the ASUS K Series / OS X 10.6.x / 10.7.x
The ASUS K50/70 notebook is designed to provide a no-frills computing experience to users while on the move. The K Series of notebooks sport the nVidia MCP79 / MCP75 chipsets containing C2D or CD CPU`s along with nVidia GPU`s which makes them a perfect combo for a macbookpro replacement :P After some testing and tweaking, we (the users of this thread) would like to report that the K series of notebooks are quite compatible running vanilla OS X.
WARNING: We DO NOT take ANY responsibility in case of hardware failure or error.

(thanks man) on a GUID partition (the other one is a Windows 7).So Windows 7 supports beeing installed to GUID schema? (Sorry I just wonder about this, but might be so - I am not that much into using Windows. ;))
1. the audio which is working through VoodooHDA but the Bass sounds are useless and there is also a lot of noise, andI just found this, when reading through the recent topics... - Hope it helps you. :)

Hello Imkantus,
As i found out myself too, Windows 7 supports beeing installed to GUID ( i have the 64bit version) :))
I have tried that link that you sent but to no avail, i have built in audio in device profiler but i have grey sound icon on the taskbar and no audio :( The voodooHDA kext i have now recognizes the sound as ALC662 Nvidia MCP79 but still noise and scratches. It seems the kext from the link doesnt have the same outputs mapped as i have :( I have a friend that has the same laptop and he sent me working 10.5 kext that i have no knowledge of translating them to snow leo or 64 bit for that matter. I have searched my dsdt for entering the Hdef Patch but i have no AZAL device or anything simmilar, so...F1 :)

You would need to get a codec dump from your audio hardware to fix the outputs mapped to the wrong ports. Also you could try using this modded version of VoodooHDA (http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=355) by Slice that lets you remap the ports too, it could be easier than patching AppleHDA from scratch.
Also I'm curious too, I was assuming Windows 7 didnt support installing to a GPT partition even in 64 bits variants, what method did you use?
flip360
10-19-2009, 12:01 PM
thanks man will try that kext out and try to map my ports also :) Anyway i first formatted my drive with a GUID partition table, two partitions actually on single HDD, one is hfs the other one was FAT32 from within Disk Utility, installed OSX and than Win7 64bit recognized the fat32 partition. I was amazed too when i saw that it works :))

first off use this and generate an usb install and then just follow the marks within the script. Afterwards you will need the kexts that i wrote in the first post about and copy them to E/E on the Snow Leo Partition. If you cannot find them let me know and i will upload them somewhere. I used the golden master image of Snow Leo and the script and it turned out to be ok after days of trial and error :) But it works very well as i have tried every other distro available out there, vanilla works best :)

Heya,
I just picked up this laptop myself. I've swapped out the wifi, and am planning on loading up snow leopard this weekend. Could you be kind enough to posts the kext's that you used for your installation.
Also have you tried this kext for your realtek card? I've read around and it seems to be working pretty well. Replace your dsdt.dsl in /Extra with the one in the zip file and put the ALC662.kext in /Extra/Extensions. Rebuild the Extensions.mkext in /Extra (if your using Chameleon 2).

Hello Ryan,
first off, let me tell you this laptop is as vanilla as you can get with hackintosh after swapping the wifi out :) second, i dont think i am using any dsdt, if so i cant seem to find it on my hard disk even with show hidden files script. I updated it to the latest bios from Asus (219 i think) and it seems i dont need dsdt anymore :) Will try this kext out and report back. For installation look at my first post about the USB install method, i am gonna upload the kexts, com.apple.boot.plist and SMBIOS.plist somewhere for you to try :)
Cheers
Thanks, I'm looking forward to trying it out. I'll need to make the loader using my MSI Wind tonight. Did you include the kext's while preparing the loader, or did you do those post install?
I wasn't sure about the Realtek kext. I'd only found it while searching for other info on components in this laptop. I think this kext could have come from a different laptop/desktop using this chipset, but it's worth a shot!
Cheers

I did not include the kexts in the USB install, just copy NullCPUPowerManagement.kext into E/E afterwards, booting from the USB stick so you dont have KP. I will upload my whole Extra folder so you have fun with it and maybe upgrade something :)

Sweet, thanks, I'm really starting to think this laptop is a great choice for OSX (And you can't beat the price either)
Can't wait to get started on this!

Hello flip360,
Thanks for your info, I also got my K50IN with Vanilla. But I have one major problem: the mousepad does not work for me.
I'm now going to use your Extra folder, just to see if it would behave a bit better. :D
Thanks for sharing it.
By the way, have you been able to solve the problem of sound? It sounds horrible. :'(
kokozedman
11-14-2009, 06:58 PM
I got the Mousepad working now. I had to use Kext Utility or move the VoodooPS2Controller to the /System/Library/Extensions
What is left, is figure out how to get a proper sound out of the speakers.
I know this may sound dumb, but its been awhile since my last hackintosh. I will need to use the kext utility to install all the kext's from the extra folder....I just can't copy and paste can I...
Things are ready to go, I just need to find some time!
Cheers

I will need to use the kext utility to install all the kext's from the extra folder....I just can't copy and paste can I...
Yes, you can't just copy and paste the files in the Extensions folder. Ownership and Permissions on the file need to be updated.
If you do copy and paste: make sure that you use the Kext Utility. It will take care of updating these above, and also update the Extensions.mkext also; which is very important if you are using Chameleon 2.
And keep us posted! :D
Before you use the Kexts from flip360, make sure that you have 10.6.2. I found that out the hard way :-d
Well, I'm running into some issues.
The Chameleon boot loader works fine, and it starts to boot osx. At first I was getting a KP, No HPETS available, incorrect cpumanagement. No Big sweat, I added this kext: http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/pre-install-automator-v1-1-for-easily-installing-t4041/post34694.html
It seems to get past that now, and starts to load everything else. I can see some Nvidia stuff flashing by, hard drives, even the mac address of the ethernet, and that's where it all goes wrong...
The last line of code I get is something to the effect of "Could not intialize UIM:Timed Out"
After that, it just sits there, no activity at all.
It's gotta be close to working correctly. I should note, that this is a slightly different version of the k50. Its the K60IN, same parts minus the cpu and screen (Intel T4300).
I think it may have to do with AHCI (From what I can read online), so I am going to try a few kexts for that!
Keep you posted!
Ryan
Heya,
Still no luck with any of the ahci stuff. I am going to try installing it without the graphics enabler. Maybe that is the root of my problem. It hangs just after declaring the modem and ip/mac address.
See my photo here: http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/9804/pb142194.jpg (http://img26.imageshack.us/i/pb142194.jpg/)
Quick Update:
I formatted my drive again, and changed NVEnabler to No, and it does boot to the installer now. Funny because I know this is the same gpu chipset as the K50IN.....Installing now, I will keep you up to date!
Edit: Looks like the installer is running in either 1024x768 or 1280x768...its stretched, but not horribly bad....Trackpad also doesn't work, but that looks fixable after install. Main thing I'm worried about is graphics!!!

Just a quick question: are you using a patched DSDT? I seem to have this timeout thing and so I tried with an old iPC 10.5.6 (which I heavily used to do the whole installation because it boots with kernel parameter cpus=1 -x -v) to create the DSDT.
Then I have patched it into another Hack computer running 10.5.8. Note that you must find a way to get the DSDT from the computer on which you plan to use the Hack.
I just read today, that it is possible to get the DSDT using a Linux system. For my case, as I have not been aware of that thing before; I have actually been doing things the hard way because I had to make use of the old iPC DVD all the time, and it takes ages to boot up. But I got it installed though.

At this time, my Hack is currently usable. The last things that remains to be solved are:
1. Sound; still not working. I'm currently using a USB Sound from Behringer (from my UMX61 master keyboard which also is working fine in 10.6.2 and MainStage from Logic Studio 2.0)
2. Battery indicator. I have used the VoodooBattery from flip360 and it seems to work, but it is not accurate and is very silly on my system. It displays 100% of battery but when the AC Adaptor is removed, then it goes directly to 10% which is not right because the battery is sure to be still full.
flip360, do you have this same issue with yours? It would be great if you could share what you did to solve your problem.
I used my MSI Wind running leopard to generate the installer usb. It created a dsdt, but it was particular to my Wind, so I deleted it, booted up the installer on my K60IN, and ran the installer script again to generate a new dsdt.
One thing I am a wee bit concerned about is the dsdt. Before i deleted the old dsdt, it reset my bios to stock settings, but I hope that was only because of the wrong dsdt on the laptop. (MSI Wind DSDT on a Asus K60IN)
Have you tried making NVEnabler set to No? I got that time out every time with it Enabled, disabled it works fine!
Okay, its up and working, gotta fix graphics, touchpad, etc. Interestingly, the camera works, but is upside down!!
Can anyone help me with nvenabler?
This was disabled in Chameleon loader (to get it to boot) and now I'm wondering how to go about installing the kext and getting correct resoultion qe etc...
Okay, got NVEnabler to work just fine, same with PS2 and Battery (Mine shows 9 percent if I unplug the AC......not a concern since I almost always have it plugged in)
Tried Sleep enabler from the extras folder to no avail, caused a KP and wouldn't boot, even in safe mode. Can anyone help me in disabling sleep alltogether. I remember you could disable sleep on the Acer Aspire One on OSX (I think with a kext) but I can't remember!
All I need now is a nice USB sound card, and I'm set!!
Thanks!

well first off, i am happy that you have success with installing OSX on K50.
Its funny that i dont need DSDT patch anymore since upgrading to the latest ASUS BIOS :)
mao_red, the graphic card i have is working through Chameleon Graphic Enabler, and with the Extra files i provided (if you have the same laptop) you should be able to boot 64bit with QE/CI.
Ryan, i dont know if DSDT is the solution to your problems, but there are some fixes in the com.apple.boot.plist for Chameleon, so try that. For HPET try this: http://netkas.org/?p=262. Also you should check if you have apple accelerated or nvidia accelerated system with this: http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/. If not try the NVInject 64bit kext, its working OK.
About sleep, it is enabled on my system but after coming back from sleep my usb and ps2 is not working.
ryan, you should try a different version of sleepenabler, that one is for 10.6.2 only.
Kokozedman, the battery kext from superhai is working excellent here with correct battery meters and no errors when i unplug the power source :)
So the only two things that are left to take care of are: Sound, (maybe solved with new voodoohda release), camera (upside down) and restart/reboot. i can shutdown normally but the other options are not working. ALSO last but not least, always use the kext utility :) I hope i helped a little bit,
Cheers
Did you have a chance to try that kext I posted earlier about the sound? I'm curious to see if it works. I need to run out for a bit, so I can't try it myself!
Cheers

Tell me, are you running in 64-bit mode or 32? I had to try another kext for the battery to work, but the problem now is that I cannot ready any DVD in my drive, if I use the Eject button next to the date on top, it never displays "Open TSSTCorp ..." but always "Close TSSTCorp..." whether the drive is open or not.

I've already tried VoodooHDA, but it sounds really weird. I prefer to use the USB output for now ... that is until we get a solution.
Just for info: I can properly Reboot/Shutdown.
My model is: K50IN-SX176C
flip360, may be, your model is different from mine. That is why you can get the VoodooBattery to work, because I also tried it in 64-bit but it didn't work properly.
It has been bought in France, so the Keyboard is AZERTY.

I replaced the AppleACPIBatteryManager to 64-bit mode, and now the Battery indicator is working also in 64-bit mode.
I got it from http://www.box.net/shared/yo9zen7n88 ; just make sure that you only take that kext and not use the others. It is taken from a pack of Dell kexts, running 10.6.1 not 10.6.2 like we use now.
Last problems that matters to me: the Sound out of the built-in speakers, and the built-in Atheros wifi.

My laptop has K50IN-SX004L markings so i think its a different model than mine, can you give me your specs, you can check mine from my signature. I am running in 64bit mode, i havent had any problems regarding charging, switching from battery to power adapter and although your kext for the battery worked fine, i prefer the superhai`s version of AppleACPIBattery :) The ALC662 is still "in the works" and for the Atheros WiFi i hate to say but i think that you need to replace it with a working wifi card :( (Check my signature again) The Atheros is recognized in 10.6.2 but its not scanning or finding any networks.

I have a Behringer Master Keyboard, model UMX61. It came with a little device that I can connect to my PC, and then it will be recognized as a sound card on both Windows and Mac.
It has RCA output and input, and is actually meant for doing digital recording with Behringer equipment, like the Keyboard or a Audio Mixing table.

Mine is just different from yours in CPU, because it is a P7450. But it seems that a lot of things are different, because I have to use DSDT for it to boot, otherwise I get a KP.
Since this is a vanilla install, I should be able to update to 10.6.2 directly without issue correct? Just backup my kext's and reinstall them if required?

NVEnabler is working in 32bit mode only for 64bit full QE/CI you have to place NVInject 64bit kext in S/L/E. I have tried EFI Strings for the graphic card but it has Apple renderer only no QE/CI.

I have patched also my DSDT, and I'm getting a partial information in the System Profiler about the audio. It properly says the relevant info: speaker and microphone.
I use HDAEnabler, but it has some assertion errors when booting. I cannot see the message because it's flashing right before it goes to graphics mode.
Also tried to check in the system.log, but nothing. I guess it is because it is redirecting outputs to /dev/console (it says that earlier on).
I think, it should be close to getting audio output. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.

Quick Question. Looking about 10.6.2 upgrade, most everyone says to install NullCPUPowerManagement.kext. before installing the update.
Edit: I needed Null... for my install to boot, not to actually run. So I will need to instal NullCPU....sorry, brain fart!

Weird!!! I have been playing with the ALC622.kext that RGGG has posted. I have not used the DSDT directly, because that would, as flip360 already experienced, cause a KP. I have instead taken the HDEF part that I see in that DSDT, and replaced the HDEF section of my system's DSDT.
I have installed the ALC662.kext, and have used the AppleHDA (original from the 10.6.2 update) ... didn't work and nothing has been changed on the system.
Then, I used a patched AppleHDA in combination with the same ALC662.kext. That patched kext with itself doesn't work either for me, even though I tried to patch the binary according to the guides that are going all around. But when combined with the ALC662.kext, it will HANG my system up.
Now, I can't boot it anylonger. Care should be take when using it ... this is the second time I got this hang-up, but this time, it is more serious, because I can't revert the system to a working state.

kokozedman thanks for your experimenting, i was hoping that we have some kind of working audio kext (besides voodooHDA). In my experience also, AppleHDA doesn`t play well with ALC662 :(. Imkantus offered to do some patching on snow leo`s AppleHDA and i have been waiting for that one, hope it works. i dunno how will i get the audio working when i dont have/need the DSDT patch. I am sure that some kind of solution will come for this one...

I've been seeing some patching to the VoodooHDA kext. If you notice, it has NodesToPatch in the Info.plist.
But I just can't find anywhere the rules that is used there. In some russian threads, with translation, I can understand some of the talks that they do. But the problem comes into the most important patching, where you change the Pin Default of the Nodes.
Lots of people seem to have been asking for this info, but the author just dodge this and simply say that the driver isn't completed yet, and so information will not be provided; thus forcing the users to try to magically discover how to deal with this part.
I'm not sure though, that this solution will solve the very very noisy output that we get with all VoodooHDA. All I know, is that it is the only solution that actually works. So, I guess, that is also the only option that we should all be trying to dig deeper into.
Slice is the name of the guy who made this modification into VoodooHDA. Also, the official VoodooHDA (hosted in google code) seems to be dead. Only Slice seems to keep it going.
@flip360, could you share with use your ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext? I think mine is not booting because of this. I have removed fakesmc.kext, and it didn't hang, but is waiting for SMC ... but when it is there, that ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext seems to cause the hang-up
I think

Have you went into energy saver and unchecked Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible? It seemed to cause the random kernel panic on my hackintosh.

I think my Hard Disk is sleeping, and that have never been a cause of kernel panic as far as I know. Actually, it has never paniced, unless I loaded VoodooHDA, unloaded it, and then reloaded it.

Do you know how the mapping on VoodooHDA works? I'd like to know more about that. Slice, the forker of the moded kext is not giving any hint on how it works with simple excuses that it is not yet completed.

Well, I haven't been before, but since I have been messing-up with that AppleHDA, then my system is no longer stable. Actually, I'm nearly giving up on this, because of too many things not working.
1. Sound, which is very important is not working. USB works, but it's not convenient at all.
2. Wifi doesn't work either. I've heard that there is a way to enforce it to work. The method is called "pin 21 patch" which makes the Wifi always on. In windows, it has a way of enabling/disabling the PCI port where the Wifi device is on; but there is no way for Mac to know that. If there is a BIOS setting to always switch the Wifi on all the time, then it would be cool. But unfortunately, the AMI BIOS is such a joker BIOS, you can't do that.
3. Dual monitor isn't working. I have a bigger (21") screen, that I want my hack to work on. This notebook has a VGA out, I tried, but it didn't get any output to that screen.
I'm a Web developer, so, I guess I'm going to use VMWare and install the Linux that I like there. And I'll be using Windows 7 while waiting for these issues to be resolved.
Good luck guys!!! I'll watch this thread, and please keep me posted ;)

As for the HPET, I think I have already been using a DSDT patch about that. So, I should not require that kext. It's just that the AppleHDA and the ALC662 kext has messed-up my Hack, and I can't get back to a previous state anylonger. :(

I am sorry to hear that you are going to give up. Wifi needs a replacement for sure, personally i have replaced the wifi card (the easiest thing to do on this laptop) and have a fully working Airport. The usb works fine for me sofar and as for the graphic card, i did try and connect it to a 22`` screen i have at home and it works, mind you that i use Chameleon Graphic Enabler and not NVEnabler (maybe they are the same), and for the sound....i dunno, imkantus is working on this, i hope it gets resolved, thanks Imkantus for your effort. So what i am saying is that although its hard to get the right set of everything for your laptop, it was not meant to be Macintosh in the first place, right? :)

I have this version of VoodooHDA.kext-Snow32/64-v0243 with cVad correction and it seems to be working best of all the versions of voodoohda i have tried, BUT the sound is behaving very strangely, i have noticed that when i play audio and video (avi, mpg, mov) i have crystal clear audio, when i watch youtube videos they are also listenable with minor scratches and weird noises, the UI sounds are on or off sometimes which doesnt bother me but when i try to play audio in iTunes...well thats another story. All of a sudden its as if my computer is going to die any moment soon :) The bass sounds and high sounds are most distorted which i cannot say for the middle sounds for instance. Has anyone encountered something simmilar to this?

NVEnabler is working in 32bit mode only for 64bit full QE/CI you have to place NVInject 64bit kext in S/L/E. I have tried EFI Strings for the graphic card but it has Apple renderer only no QE/CI.
Attach your NVInject 64bit for 64bit full QE/CI, please :-| I use your com.Apple.Boot.plist and there is no info about QE/CI...
Also do not run PS2 and USB when laptop comes out of sleep... Is there a fix for this problem?
P.S. News from applelife.ru - AppleHDA.kext (by clubber_77) for our ALC662 will work soon on 10.6.2... ;)

@flip360: I have finished reinstalling my Hack. To my surprise, I didn't need NV Enabler too, the Chameleon's GraphicsEnabler option made the graphics work.
I now also get dual monitor. It doesn't look right yet, but I think I'll find a solution for that later on. Still, I'll just say it, if there is anyone of you guys able to give a quick info about this. My bigger screen is 1600x900, but the pictures are not very clear. It seems that the resolution of the main screen (1366x768) is a bit stretched to fit in the bigger screen, and it doesn't look good at all.
Right, audio does work, but its got a lot of noise. It reminds me of the Aspire One, the mic created a lot of interference, unless turned way down...sadly, this does nothing here.
I have a interesting issue now, maybe be hackintosh related or just snow leopard related:
We use an xserve at work running 10.5.2 to host our files which we access on other machines running 10.5.2/10.5.7.
When I connect my hackintosh to the network, I can see the server, and connect to it, but its a slow connect, takes around 3-4 minutes to connect, and interestingly some files do not show up at all, and some are replaced with empty folders labeled like "1a3hb3" and so forth.
On the other machines, they connect fine, and even show the icon as a xserve, on snow leopard, it shows as just a share point or a windows pc icon.
Now, this xserve is full of errors and glitches, but last time I had a hackintosh connected to it was my MSI Wind on 10.5.7 and it worked fine
Any idea's on this one? As soon as things slow down, I'd like to test my Wind again, to see if its a server issue or just a snow leopard issue....
Cheers
Ryan
Okay, well here's some progress on the sound, and it seems its related to the output settings.
Using the kext Flip360 posted, I can get sound, but with considerable noise.
I've been playing around with Apple's MIDI utility in the Utilities folder, with not bad success.
I set my speakers to 44100hz and 2ch 16bit, and it improved quite well, still some noise, but its honestly not bad.
But here is the interesting thing, and its an odd one. If while in the same menu, I choose my mic input, and begin to play with the channel slider on the mic, with itunes open, it sounds crystal clear. As soon as I let go of the slider, I get noise again.
As odd as it seems, it seems to work, so its possibly an issue to do with the mic causing such noise. Is it possible to blacklist the mic alltogether and not have OSX see it at all?

hello ryan,
i have the same thing in iTunes as you have but i dont know a workaround for that one.
VooDooHDA should work perfectly though...
For me, I get static regardless of the application, but by playing around with the output settings using the MIDI control panel, I can reduce the noise.
I think the mic is causing the interference. If I can blacklist/remove OSX from seeing it, I think then sound would work flawlessly

I think that should be possible. You have an option NodesToPatch in the VoodooHDA, which helps you to modify the nodes.
I have been looking for documentations about that, but it seems that Slice among other guys are only talking Russian about this, and I can't understand a thing ... I have been using Translation, but it is still hard to understand their talk.
Do a google search using the term "VoodooHDA NodesToPatch" and you'll see these Russian threads.
I do not remember the right key, but I think there was a key called Enable which allows you to enable or disable a node. You just need to find which node is actually related to the Mic.
For now, I'm kind of very busy to look into it. When I get free time again, I'll see if disabling the Mic will also solve my noisy output.
Nevertheless, I doubt that it is the microphone which is causing this problem. I'm thinking that it is not the right output node that is used by VoodooHDA.
When I run vooodoohdahelper program, I see that there are a lot of disabled nodes. Maybe, one of these might be better than the one used by VoodooHDA ...
The reason I think of this, is that it says "Speaker (CD)" for my output, instead of a purely simple "Speaker". There is obviously something wrong in the way that this is guessing the right output nodes. Unfortunately and again, Slice is not providing enough documentation to help in solving this issue ... and the source codes are commended in Russian too ... :-S

My bigger screen is 1600x900, but the pictures are not very clear. It seems that the resolution of the main screen (1366x768) is a bit stretched to fit in the bigger screen, and it doesn't look good at all.
I found the solution for this, and display are now great. I had to enable "Show displays in menubar" (in the Display section) and I got a menu which presented all the possible resolution which actually comes with the display refresh rate.
By default, the settings in the System Preferences is just displaying the resolution (no refresh rate) and the biggest resolution that my screen supports is by default run at 59.9 Hz. The little menu on the menubar displays the refresh rate, and offered another choise of 60.0 Hz.
Choosing 60.0 Hz solved the display issue, and now, I'm running a fully dual-screen setup. :D

It would be great if we could try the variant. I have looked at the AsusK50IN.kext, and it has some patching that is similar to the ALC662.kext that RGGG has pointed-out.
I must say, that using the ALC662.kext cause a havoc and panic all around my whole system, and rendered me in a necessity of a whole reinstallation to recover. But the AsusK50IN.kext did not cause a freezing in my system.

Big milestone ... huge thanks Clubber_77, I really appreciate your help man.
Now, I'm on to patching the Wifi so that it will be always on. I don't like to use the USB Wifi that I bought, because it makes use of the CPU, and it makes the batter power drained a lot faster.
flip360, how do you know that your SpeedStep works? Me, I have bought a small software called CoolBook ... It allows me to control the CPU voltage and frequencies, to auto-throttle it or manually lock it to the lowest speed.
Actually, mine have 2133, 1600 and 800 MHz speeds ... and it saves some battery time when I lock it to the lowest speed.
I have tried DSDT patching to get vanilla SpeedStep, but it didn't seem to work. Or, may be, I don't know how to check whether it works or not ... but now, with that software, I can see that it is working.

Well, I don't know how you have installed it, but normally, if you get it installed at this time, then you sure should be knowledged about eh /Extra folder on the root of your Snow Leopard.
It is very strange to me that you don't know it, and though you have Snow Leopard installed.
Extensions are placed in 2 places:
/System/Library/Extensions/
/Extra/Extensions/
The second on the list is loaded first, and the first on the list if loaded second; keep that in mind.

Oddly, I just noticed, my mac is listed as a Mac Pro, and in system preferences, I have separate options for keyboard and mouse instead of the usual "keyboard & mouse setting" found on macbooks
That is very strange ... I recommend you use the SMBIOS.plist from flip360. I'm actually using one that is based on that, and mine is actually MacBookPro5,1 (the one from flip360 is actually MacBookPro5,3).
I have attached my SMBIOS if you want to try it. There are some few enhancements in it, that is suitable to my laptop ... use at your own risk as usual.
As for the mouse, I actually had similar problems before ... what I have noticed is that when the Extensions.mkext is not updated correctly, it will do that. I recommend you use pfix script in addition to Kext Utility.
First, use the Kext Utility, then run pfix script. http://osx86.sojugarden.com/2009/10/pfix-v2-1-1-released/

My trackpad has stopped working. I reinstalled the VoodooPS2 kext, no go.
Possibly stopped working after getting sound installed.
Any idea what happened here?
Also, make sure that you're using PC EFI v10.5. When using bare Chameleon RC3, I get either a very jumpy and strange trackpad behavior, or really dead trackpad.
Above that, PC EFI seems to make Hackintosh behave much more stable.

Well, everything is working exept the trackpad, wireless internet (but no one of you all has already resolved this), and the sound.
Anyone who can help me?
Thanks for the help guys, I uninstalled and reinstalled the kexts a few times, and it did work again, its back to a perfect working machine!!
I just noticed with my network, that it can connect to anything via IP, but has trouble showing those devices otherwise (IE, no printers show up in network, but I can connect and print via IP fine)

How do you have fixed the trackpad and the sound RGGG?
And how to you fix your wireless card :O!
For the trackpad, look for Flip360's Extra folder (First Page Link) simply copy and paste VooDooPS2.kext and AppleACPIPS2.kext into "Extra/Extension" install with your favourite kext utility and reboot.
The sound instructions are here: http://www.infinitemac.com/f47/asus-k50in-t4409/post40129.html
Be sure to remove VooDooHDA.kext before installing, and also install the kext IOAudioFamily.kext into System/Library/Extensions as well

Yeah! Its working. Many thanks for all you help. Finally :)!
Now only get a new WiFi card or wait for a working kext. Many many thanks!
Go for a new card, if your lucky, you might even have a compatible card in another laptop (My MSI wind had one, so I swapped it into this machine) Everything works quite well. Haven't had a KP is some time (knock on wood)

I have replaced the card and it is also working nice. I am glad that all of us resolved the issues for K50IN and i must say that this particular machine performs quite well, not near but perfect hackintosh :)

With my driver after waking, the sound will not work.
To it the reason the external amplifier on 14 node.
Node 0x14 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x40018d: Stereo Amp-Out
Amp-Out caps: ofs=0x00, nsteps=0x00, stepsize=0x00, mute=1

Misc = NO_PRESENCE
Pin-ctls: 0x40: OUT
Unsolicited: tag=00, enabled=0

It can be corrected by means of patch IOAudioFamily.kext from 10.6.2
In 10.5.х it has done km9 from http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/17365-post.html.
My friend Mark (http://www.applelife.ru/user/17759-mark/) from www.AppleLife.ru has helped to compile the driver for 10.6.2
Now the sound after waking works!!!

CoolBook doesn't work properly for me ... so I started the thread for any inputs on how to fix it: http://www.infinitemac.com/f47/vanilla-speedstep-in-asus-x5din-k50in-notebooks-t4880/

Hello guys, I'm looking for a good OSx86 laptop, and so far K50IN seems to be the best choice. I've read whole thread and there is a sum up for me and others:
- SpeedStep working with coolbook (in future by patching DSDT on vanilla)
- Sleep/wake is ok (audio-mute issues, USB and PS/2 were solved)
- GPU QE/CI, resolution change, second display fully working (?)
- Sound is ok (both speakers and internal mic?)
- Webcam is ok, although upside down
- Touchpad is ok (does two finger scroll work??)
- LAN is working (maybe some issues with Bonjour broadcasts?)
- Card reader is supported and working (?)
- CD/DVD reading/burning ok
- Just the WLAN card needs to be replaced with one with Broadcom chipset to get it work
Correct me if I'm wrong or add an answer! Thank you!

Hello moole,
Yes the K50IN has the best hackintosh setup so far (with some help from the OSX86 Community) :)
All of the above work along with some of the Fn keys like brightness, wifi, sleep and so on that work OOTB. The touchpad works with two finger scrolling, graphic fully supported, audio works excellent thanks to Clubber_77, all is well except the WiFi card that needs to be replaced, which is very very easy to do :)
@ Clubber_77, i dont know or i cant seem to find any trace of any kind of DSDT file on my partition (maybe its on the EFI Partition but i dont know how to check that), when i updated my BIOS to the 219 from ASUS website, things seem more compatible with native sleep and cpumanagement and seems i dont have the need for patched DSDT...

1. Look at the specification T6400 at intel.com, Tjmax = 105 'C
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLGJ4
2. CoolBook and other's crap do not must use. is not necessary! SpeedStep and PowerManagement must be running system's!
3. I use macmodel macbook2, 1,becouse fits the characteristics of my processor
I've noticed that when I'm on battery power, the cpu drops to 1.2 ghz, and plugged in its at 2.2ghz

I noticed an interesting feature - if you choose to sleep through the menu, the system goes to sleep fairly quickly (in few seconds) ... but if you will just wait, then the monitor will go to sleep, but the computer will go to sleep (the power button will start blinking) with some delay (plus 1-2min .)... still interesting why ...

Hey guys,
Anyone having some strange USB behavior sometimes? When one or more device at boot-time, the console will display something similar to this: "could not get device to turn off after 100 ms"; it's not really that, but something similar.
It's not a big deal, because it doesn't happen if I remove all USB devices before booting ... and then put back everything after the boot phase.
But, it would be better if I could keep my WIFI USB there all the time, among my USB mouse of course :)

And last, who has got full DSDT vanilla SpeedStep?

Well, it works well when it wants to work, and it really is crazy when it's not working. I mean, it is very very random ... sometimes it works, sometimes it will not work, even after 3 successive reboots.
To solve the problem, in general, I have to disable the CoolBook ... Reboot ... and then enable again ... Reboot ... then it works :-/
That is a long and annoying steps, just to get SpeedStep.
And the most stupid error, I think it is a bug in the program itself ... is that when it does not work, the frequencies are all 0 MHz!!!
What I hate is the guy who is developing this little software is terribly bad in terms of customer support ... don't count on it, he will not answer.

I keep having some strange issue with the DVD drive on my system. Sometimes the drive is good, but sometimes, it is not responding properly. I eject the drive from the tray icons, but it takes some long while before it gets open.
But the worst case is that the system reports that there is no CD/DVD drive. And that is weird!

Try DSDT by Rus for K50IN which I have attached. It fixes that problem. Also the system works without HpetDevice.Kext, HDAEnabler.kext with this DSDT.
Rus has made 2 options:
1 - DSDT fix for dvd, hpet and sound - With this you must remove HpetDevice.Kext, HDAEnabler.kext
2 - DSDT fix for dvd, hpet and audio + video - With this you must remove HpetDevice.Kext, HDAEnabler.kext and turn off graphic enabler in the Chameleon.

HpetDevice.kext in info.plist irq number 12? you will change on 21, or vice versa.

Hello all. First I would like to say thank you to all of you here it has taken me great amounts of time but this noob finally got snow leopard 10.6.2 up and running dual boot with windows 7.
Went and bought usb N wireless that works great and doesn't bother me I will use until we find a kext for the built in wireless. I do not have sound working yet and also graphics work well but no QE/CI and none of my video programs will run those two things I am working on now. Have tried chameleon enabler, NVinject _64, as well as NVEnabler none have given me full graphics support any help would be appreciated. I am running Asus K50in-RBCBRO5
geforce 102m graphics card. thanks again to all

Sound is now working as well. Thanks again.
Now i have a weird problem. As long as my usb HDD is plugged in I can boot into any partition i want but when i unplug my external it says boot error and boots straight into windows 7 I have tried reinstalling chameleon to no avail. I am sure this is a simple fix but i cannot seem to figure it out any help would be appreciated. THX

what disk did you install chameleon onto?
this first springs to mind :)

first chameleon was installed to usb hdd in order to install then when that was working properly i installed to internal hdd in the same process.
Disk0s1 = boot disk
disk0s2 = windows 7
disk0s3 = Snowing ( my SL drive)
I used the program from beginning posts to add chameleon and Flip360' s Extra folder to my SL drive which worked for the usb HDD it just is not working properly for my internal HDD

I also don't get any Keyboard/Touchpad with the patched DSDTs with Audio, Video and HPET (and SMBus).
So, I reverted to the older one that I have used.
I tried to see the difference between mine and the patched one, but it is too numerous, and I can't locate the patch for the DVD drive.

OK, so, I played with the DSDT files, and merged the difference.
I have manually added all the changes that drade has done on his. That includes mostly everything, except the section in the TMR.
Audio: working without HDAEnabler, but still using the AsusK50IN kext
Video: working without the need of any NVEnabler or GraphicsEnabler on Chameleon
DVD Drive: working very well also, and is responding without delay
Not sure how to test the HPET and the SMBus, so, I just assume they work as well. I would happy to hear info on how to test these.
I have attached it. Beware, that even it works on mine, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will also work on yours.
Be sure to have your older DSDT around in case it doesn't work; and be sure that the USB disk/flash drive used to install Snow is still around, in case you get Kernel Panic and unable to enter single user mode to restore your previous DSDT.

When you guys are saying that the graphics are "working" with this dsdt.aml is that the full QE/CI or are they just working well enough?
shawn0694
01-08-2010, 01:01 PM
Scratch the post above just found out for myself. As far as i can tell full QE/CI. I swear you guys make me very happy. When I first bought this laptop 4 months ago I thought I made a bad choice but i see now that was worth way more than the $600 I paid for it.
Now if I can just fix the boot problem I will be finally satisfied for now.
Thanks again to all hackintoshers that are helping make this possible.

Not sure how to test the HPET
if you have removed your HPETDevice.kext and the system has worked well, so DSDT patch works fine too :)
Is there any way to get the default apple boot image instead of a debug? I know its not critical, but it would be nice to see the apple logo at boot, instead of reading the same boot code over and over each time it boots!

You can see the Apple logo at boot time if you enable the GUI boot in chameleon, com.apple.boot.plist :)

I don't use NullCPUPowerManagement kext. Are you having a K50IN or X5DIN like mine? If so, then why don't you just try the patched DSDT that are posted in here?
Usually, you just get the DSDT from Linux, then you patch it, then you feed it to Chameleon, add your kexts, modify the installation DVD, and do the install. The rest is a progressive state.
You are very lucky if you have one of the computer models that I have mentioned above, because these DSDTs are already patched, and ready to be used right away.

I cant install snowleouniflash...
Hello All,
I would like to report that this notebook works almost vanilla with OS X 10.6.
I have managed to install it through this script http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/pre-install-automator-v1-1-for-easily-installing-t4041/ (thanks man) on a GUID partition (the other one is a Windows 7).
Its Working in 32 and 64 bit mode, vanilla kernel, speedstep, Chameleon RC3, and my choice of kexts in the extra folder.
The system is stable with more than 24hours of load time, full 64bit, mind you that i dont have dsdt patch or i cant seem to find it :)
The only non working part is:
1. The WiFi card which is Atheros AR9285 with no working kexts sofar.
I have managed to buy Dell 1490 a/b/g with a Broadcom 4312 chip which is working as native airport.
UPDATE: The Extra folder with all the needeed files: http://www.mediafire.com/?2tdimxtmt2z
Thanks to all the osx86 community, keep up the good work! :)

Hey guys,
I just noticed an updated BIOS on the ASUS site: it is version 221. I updated mine, and tested whether my Hack would run or not without the DSDT that we've all been playing around in here.
To my surprise, it worked fine, and actually run a bit faster than usual. I don't know yet what have been patched in it, but it is told to be a Firmware update. I'm guessing that includes DSDT patches to be a little better.
The usual problem happens afterwards: no Video acceleration, and no Sound. But these are not hard to solve, as we've already solved these very things before.
It seems that ASUS has started to correct the DSDT, and makes our lives easier with Hackintosh. May be all of us could send feedback to ASUS, and ask them to continue improving the BIOS to provide better DSDT table.
I'll let you guys know if something good happens.

UPDATE: ASUS-K50IN-BootCD.iso v1.1 (http://depositfiles.com/files/yf2hm5w73)
Changes log:
1) touchpad is working(VoodooPS2) during the installation and when the system starts with bootCD
2) disabled graphic enabler and added NVEnabler x64 ...
3) now the sound works from bootCD
4) you get almost fully functional system is already at the first run
Burning ASUS-K50IN BootCD:
1. Download ASUS-K50IN BootCD (http://depositfiles.com/files/lvdtqiaxt).If you downloaded the compressed zip file you will need to decompress or "unzip" it. If necessary, download and install your choice of CD burning program (it needs to be capable of burning ISO files.)
2. Open the ASUS-K50IN BootCD ISO in the burning application, insert a blank CD or DVD into the drive, and begin the burn process. When it is finished, you can eject the disc or keep it in the DVD drive if it is the same as the one you will be booting from.
Boot the Retail DVD:
When the bootloader ask you for rescan, press ENTER.
Go to boot options (f8), Swap disks, then press F5 to rescan drive. When the name of the DVD appears, press ENTER.
Boot Partitions:
When the bootloader ask you for rescan, press any key (not ENTER).
Go to Boot options (f8), then choose your partition.
To Install Mac OS X:
1. Eject ASUS-K50IN BootCD
2. Insert Mac OS X Install DVD
3. Press F5 (or Function+F5)
4. Select Mac OS X Install DVD and Press Enter

For a really long time since I have been using my HackBook, I was not able to run in 32-bit mode, because my system will hang. :-/
With the new updated BIOS 221, I am having some luck with the system, because it boots and works, even if I don't use a patched DSDT.
So, I started messing around, and noticed, that it is the graphics which blocks the hack from booting in 64-bit mode.
Now, I'm using HDAEnabler ... again, in addition to NVEnabler to get the proper video acceleration and sound.
So here is the summary:
No DSDT is used currently, thus using the default that came with the BIOS 221.
No Graphics Enabler, and certainly no NVidia DSDT patch.
Video provided by NVEnabler, audio provided by AsusK50IN and HDAEnabler.
... running in 32-bit mode :cool::cool::cool:
Some advantages of the 32-bit mode:
Lots of drivers out there, especially commercial ones (like the Paragon NTFS driver) are only available in 32-bit mode
Much more stable in many ways, for instance, you crash when you use dummynet (bandwidth throttling integrated in Mac OS X) in 64-bit mode
Real Mac are also running in 32-bit modes, so you get closer to real ;)

@ Buhgalter: Nice of you to do a BootCD for K50/40IN users :)
@kokozedman: nice work there also, i am not using a DSDT patch also after a BIOS 219 update that stated firmware update, but my video is handled by Chameleon RC4 Graphics Enabler. And also I am up for writing to ASUS about adding some stuff for the next firmware update :),

Find in this thread the file AsusK50IN.kext and the HDAEnabler.kext. Put them in your /Extra/Extensions/ folder.
Then use pfix (http://osx86.sojugarden.com/2009/12/pfix-v2-3-released/) or Kext Utility. And google is your friend ;)

I reinstall snow leopard with a GUID partition, I put the kext's azalia.
After boot I remove the azalia kext and then I put the kext's asusk50in and HDA enabler in E / E repair and then reboot after.
My sound working :) thank you very much

Hi there,
I have my QE/CI enabled through chameleon graphic enabler, some people have theirs enabled through another enabler and as for the audio, that one is solved thanks to Clubber77 and his AsusK50IN.kext which you can find a few posts above :)

Hi ,
You using SL 10.6.2 ? , because the last kernel vanilla it's Darwin 10.2.0 for snow leopard 10.6.2
flip360
02-02-2010, 03:25 PM
I think you are using 10.6 with vanilla kernel, as for the audio kexts grab a copy of kext utility for snow leo and repair permissions and kextcache, but i think that MBR is not a good method for installing OSX as it natively requires GUID partition table,
