General Guide for SL retail disk on AMD Phenom II + AMD785 chipset (EmpireEFI BL)

What a nice way to have my first post!

In this guide, we will be using a retail/upgrade Snow Leopard DVD with Empire EFI boot loader. I prefer doing a full vanilla install but this will never happen since "apple" does not support amd processors or chipsets. This will be the next closest thing possible(if anyone else has a better method, I would love to hear from you).

Required items:
Full or upgrade version of 10.6.0 Snow Leopard DVD Retail (Apple store or apple.com)
Snow Leopard 10.6.3 combo update (Apple.com)
Legacy_kernel 10.6.3 for AMD/Intel (kexts.com)
MyHack 1.0final (kexts.com)
Marvins AMD CPUID patch utility (google.com)
Kext utility (kexts.com)
EmpireEFI 1.085 AMD version running legacybootcd.iso (google.com)
Blank CD or DVD (preferred RW if you have them available)
USB Keyboard and Mouse

My system specs:
BiosStar TA785G3 V6.3 with bios 88GAP421
AMD Phenom II X2 555 C3 Black Edition (unlock to quad @ 2.8GHz during install and overclocked to 3.8GHz daily)
evga nVidia 8600GT 256MB
2 x 2GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz @ 1333MHz 7-7-7-21
2 x SATA WD Raptor 36.7GB (OSX and Win7P)
SATA Asus DVDRW DL
Antec EA650 watts
Creative labs audigy 2 zs

*****Disclaimer*****

I will not be held responsible for any actions, damages, and/or data loss this guide may occur.

*****Disclaimer*****

Preboot check::

Step 1
Burn Empire EFI to a blank CD or DVD.

Step 1A
Back up your data if you haven't done so.

Step 2
Turn off your desktop and remove all unnecessary pci/pci-e peripheral cards and leave the video card in the system.

----------------------------------------------

Bios Configuration:

Step 3
Turn on your desktop, go into your bios and load optimal/default settings.

Step 3A
Disable all onboard peripheral but leaving SATA on(ie; lan, sounds, ide controller, floppy controller, and etc. This will help to trouble shoot as you turn on each device).

Step 3B
Change SATA mode from IDE to ACHI mode.
Note: This guide is intended for SATA drives only. NO IDE support!

Step 3C
Change your boot order to your optical drive.

Step 3D
Save bios setting and exit

----------------------------------------------

Initial boot from Empire EFI for installation:
Note. This is the most crucial part, if you can not get this section to work, you will not be able to continue. Try a different boot loader/guide if this happens.

Step 4
Boot from Empire EFI.

Step 4A
Once Empire EFI is loaded, remove EE and put in Snow Leopard DVD. Give it 15-30 seconds before it loads.

Step 4B
Press the "F5" key, you should now see "Mac OS X Install DVD" listed.
*****DO NOT PRESS ENTER OR BOOT FROM IT!*****

Step 4C
Press the "Tab" key and highlight "Mac OSX install DVD". Use flag "-v busratio=20 cpus=4" without the quotation mark and press enter.
Note 1: Depending on your processor, CPUS can be 1, 2, 3, or 4. Since I have an x2 unlock to Quad, I used 4.
Note 2: -v (verbose) will come in handy if you receive any KP.

Break:
If no KP and/or reboot occurs, you will be greeted by the language screen.
Note: this can take up to 5 minutes depending on your hardware.

----------------------------------------------

Drive preparation and SL install

Step 5
Select your language and continue.

Step 5A
Open disk utility and partition using GUID format and name it "Snow"
Note: it can be name anything you like but for this guide I will use "Snow"

Step 5B
Customizing install: uncheck all and continue.
Note: if any package is needed, you will be able to install them after the system is setup (ie printer and language support).

Step 5C
Select the drive you have partition and continue

Break:
Installation will copy all the required packages and install them onto the hard drive. Note: Depending on your hardware, this process can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes. Once this is completed, you will see a "Failed" message. This is normal, proceed and press restart.

----------------------------------------------

Booting with Empire EFI and OS X SL initial configuration

Step 6
Swap Snow Leopard DVD with Empire EFI.

Step 6A
Press the "Tab" key and highlight "Snow". Use flag "-v busratio=20 cpus=4" without the quotation mark and press enter.

Step 6B
Go through the setup and DO NOT leave the password field empty!
Note: If your system has a compatible video card, you will be greeted by the osx intro.

Break:
If you have made it this far without any issues, you have almost completed this guide. There are a few other configuration required to perform before the system can boot on its own.

----------------------------------------------

Final configuration:
SL 10.6.3 update, legacy_kernel, and boot loader.
Note: follow this section in the proper order. If you do not, I can guarantee, you will receive a kernel panic or a no start operation.

Step 7
Run 10.6.3 combo update *** DO NOT RESTART THE SYSTEM!*** when completed

Step 7A
Run MyHack 1.0 and customize
select:
- com.apple.boot.plist
- graphicsenabler
- evoreboot
-AHCIPortinjector
- legacyappleRTC
-nullcpupowermanagement
Note: MyHack does have ATA and PS2 controller kext but I have not tried them. Try them at your own risk!

Step 7B
Install the legacy_kernel 10.6.3 (10.3.0) package.

Step7C
Copy com.apple.boot.plist from /extra to desktop, Add kernel flag "busratio=20 cpus=4". Do not delete other flags which are already listed (ie: arch=i386).
Note: Before modifying the plist, I highly recommend, backup plist in the same folder and add ".bak" at the ending of the file. if anything happens or went wrong, you will be able to rename the file in single user mode via command line. Just remember you will require to use flags if the original com.apple.boot.plist is used.

Step 7D
Replace the com.apple.boot.plist from /extra with the modified one from your desktop

Step 7E
Run Kext Utility

Step 7F
Remove Empire EFI and You can safely reboot your system
Note: This is the second to the last part and also very crucial. This step can either boot into os x without any errors or you will receive a kernel panic.

----------------------------------------------

Post check.
Enabling onboard/pci/pci-e peripheral, install any additional kext, patching itunes and spotlight, and snow leopard update(yes it does work!)

Step 8
If your system was able to boot into os x in the previous step, you can now safely enable/install any onboard/pci/pci-e peripheral you have disabled/removed from beginning of this guide.
Note: I recommend enable/install each device one at a time. It's easier to diagnose and find out if the peripheral is compatible.

Step 8A.
install any additional kext into /Extra/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions
For your enabled/installed peripheral.

****Repeat 8 and 8A until all peripheral is installed and working****

Step 8B
Run Apple software updater, this will ensure you with all current security and updated apps.

Note 1: you will require to repatch spotlight and itunes if there are any new updates!
Note 2: 10.6.4 was recently released, uncheck the update before proceeding! I will update with more information once I have a 10.6.4 working. .

Step 8C
Use Marvins AMD patcher for itunes and spotlight
Note: google.com is a great source for information.

Working:
Gigabit lan
Sounds (Audigy 2 zs)
Sleep
Full video support including quartz/ce/ci
All functional usb ports
Firewire from creative sound card front panel
Keyboard and mouse
Cheap usb bluetooth dongle

Not working:
Dsdt.aml with 188 errors
Onboard alc662 sound

Final notes and thoughts:
AMD system is the best bang for the buck in price but proves more difficult to install snow leopard. If you want an easy install and an apple vanilla(unpatched) kernel, I highly recommend going with an intel setup. There are a lot more processors and board support out there for an Intel than an amd system.

If you like OS X Snow Leopard experience, please go support apple and buy their products. I have own a MacBook Pro for a few years and I can say you will never have the same experience with any hackintosh out there. Some may agree, other might now. The decision is up to you.

*****IMPORTANT!!!*****
Please do not PM me with question or asking for help, they will be ignored and be deleted. If you have any questions or problems, please post them on this thread. it's ideal to share these answers/fix/information with you and other future hackintosh'ers out there.

Turion

Will this guide work on a Turion Processor? I think I've tried every distro available with no luck at all. Thanks.
