I'm tired of looking for kexts...

I am doing hackintosh as a hobby.

Firstly, my notebook is a cheap notebook but resembles macbook4,1. I have GMA965 (X3100) ICH8M which is compatible with early 2008 MB.

This were the initial specs;
CPU: Intel T2390 Core Duo "Merom" - speedstep does not work natively
Memory: 3GB DDR2 667Mhz - if I put 4GB, has KP
GFX: GMA965 (X3100) - works in Leopard as well as SL but on 32-bit, external works with no mirroring
Wifi: Intel Card 3945 - does not work natively
LAN: Realtek RTL8101E - works with Leopard, does not work with SL
Audio: ALC883 - works in Leopard as well as in SL (with modified kext)
HDD: 320GB Samsung SATA AHCI

In Leopard, sleep on lid close works via dsdt patching, sleep on sleep button works, wake on power button works natively, backlight brightness works on function buttons as well as volume adjust.

In order for the wifi to work, I have changed the wifi card from intel to broadcom 4311. It works natively as airport card on Leopard as well as on Snow Leopard but it is identified as a third-party card.

Here comes, Snow Leopard. Installed iAtkos S3 V2. Almost everything works natively except the LAN card. I just can't find a better working modified kext for it. With the old T2390 Merom, native speedstep is not working very well and the fans are really noisy keeping the temperature down. I was hoping i could finally upgrade the memory to 4GB without KP with SL but I was wrong, it still does KP, even on 32-bit. Never tried to boot on 64-bit with 4GB memory since I will loose QE/CI with X3100. Audio is working well with modified kexts.

And so this is my notebook specs right now;

CPU: Intel T8300 Core2 Duo "Penryn" - speedstep works natively with Penryn profile loaded after edit of SMBIOS.plist from MacBookPro4,1 to MacBook4,1
Memory: 3GB DDR2 667Mhz
GFX: GMA965 (X3100)
Wifi: Atheros AR9280 - works natively with no extra kext, identified as Airport Extreme in System Profiler
LAN: Realtek RTL8101E - doesn't work with SL, "Self-assigned IP" issue
Audio: ALC883
HDD: 32GB KingSpec SSD SATA AHCI(boot up time includes POST; 26 secs, less than 2 secs on shutdown)

I have no DSDT loaded, only SMBIOS.plist as MacBook4,1. Lid sleep on close doesn't work as well as wake on lid open, but sleep on button as well as wake on power button works with no issues. All other functions works well. It works more stable.

Rather than devote all my time looking for kexts to solve my issues, I like to upgrade my hardware first and foremost in order to match the hardware that i would like to emulate, so that I can do security updates and version updates without breaking the system.

I have never been so happy with this hack. It is cheap and it is satisfying. I like to have sleep on Lid close and Wake on Lid Open but it seems it is unachievable, I have even tried use a patched DSDT, but it is not working so well and stable as expected.

Hoping others may learn in my experience.
