Edit: Running Toast with Rosetta allows it to launch. However, that is not an ideal solution. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've no idea how to run Marvin's Utility, the instructions (to me) seem ambiguous at best. I was under the impression that you needed two installs of OS X to be able to do any form of patching. Honestly, I'm not sure what to do as this was never an issue when running Tiger.

Oh, I'm not a Marvin's expert, but I've always been under the impression that whenever you installed new software, you needed to use Marvin's to check for CPU_ID's (and on the rare occassion, encrypted binaries). That seemed to make sense to me - expecially when the software is likely built to run on an Intel processor.
You don't need 2 installs to run it. You just need to copy it to your Applications folder. It's fairly simple, even if it's a bit "terse"... Most people probably use the 2nd option, which really just LOOKS for CPU_ID's that may need to be changed. When it's complete, it builds a log and patch file you can then use to make the CPU_ID changes of you wish. I use the second option once in a while. After I've installed 10.5.1 and any software I want, and done all the updates I want, I usually run Marvin's using Option 4 - which just "does it" - searches and patches automatically. (don't know that I should have that much trust - but, since I know very little, IT probably knows a lot better than me what needs to be done...) Turns out I have 8.0.3 and it runs fine on mine. My specs: 6100/430 socket 939 MB, Athlon64 X2 4200+, 8600GTS (QE/CI), 2GB DDR, lots of different drives, blah, blah... I also don't remember having to do that on Tiger. For some reason I presumed the AMD utility was only for use on Apple software/updates?
Anyway i've just had a go at using the 'Patch all binaries' option but it leaves one file untouched. So I'm now having a go at making a 'Patcher package' then rebooting in single user mode and running it using the 'patch on boot method' mentioned here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=78434&hl= Mac OS X 10.6.4 Retail || Intel Core2 Duo E8200 2.66GHz || Gigabyte G31M-ES2L || GeForce 6600 GT 128MB || Realtek ALC883 Audio || Realtek RTL8169 LAN || Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB HD || Sony Dual Layer IDE DVD RW DW-D22A || Apple Aluminium Keyboard || Mighty Mouse MacBook Pro || 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo || 200Gb HD || 2Gb Ram || NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT iPhone 4 || 16Gb |

Hi guys, please bear with me, the whole concept of decrypts and CPUIDs is still relatively new to me. So just for kicks I installed Leo on another drive, installed the kexts for my GF8600 GTS and then dropped in Toast. I then pointed Marvin's AMD Utility to the Toast folder and asked it to find and patch CPUIDs (although I'm not entirely sure if that was the correct procedure). Toast.app had now been modified - but the same thing still happened - launch, hang and quit. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the whole point of what MAU does, but I think it might be something else other than decrypts and CPUIDs. If Toast runs with Rosetta then it must be something simple thats causing it to crash natively. Going off-topic, will Rev. 2 require any of this messing about if EFI is used?
