Call of Duty 4 SP Crash (SIGSEGV)

I picked up a copy of this game the other day (well, borrowed from a friend actually, good thing), fairly certain it would run reasonably well on my Hack. I should have Googled first.
Anyway, I installed it, opened the folder, double click the app icon for Single Player, the app bounces in the dock once or twice, then POOF! It crashes. Every time. Funny enough, Multiplayer is just fine. It's only Single Player, for starters.
I read this was a problem with the Voodoo kernel, so I tried this code suggested.

sudo sysctl -w hw.optional.patcher_opts=0

Then attempted to run the game in SP. Unfortunately, this makes matters worse, as instead of bouncing once or twice and crashes, it starts to crash and the entire system locks up like it ate some Vista candy. And this install is prepatched, of course.

I'm suspecting this is because of my video card (ATI Radeon HD 3650) and not the kernel, because the errors reported regarding the Voodoo problem were all SIGBUS. However, I'm getting SIGSEGV. Aspyr's game agent doesn't like my card and whines it's not good enough (translation=too new). This, I read, can be fixed by resetting something with the server, but no further details were given and I'm thrown for a loop.

So basically, my question is this...will this game even work in SP? I read it should, but now I'm not so sure. If it can work what the heck do I need to do to get it going?

Thanks in advance and apologies in advance if I posted this in the wrong place.
