Asus a8n network
Dudes,
After a large amount of attempts i want to try something different then the onboard nforce4 lan. The reason is because of kernel panics/ crashes while doing some webpages or connect to windows machine over the network. I've tried skg.kexts, a number of forcedepth kexts. Now i would like to try it with other network cards: -Intel(R) PRO/100+ Management Adapter with Alert on LAN* -If intel is not working: Ethernet controller (0200) Winband Electronica Corp W89c94B {1050:0940} I've tried both in osx86 Leopard. In bios disabled onboard nforce lan. But no luck so far. I found some information on insanelymac: -AppleIntel8255x.kext(Intel PRO/100 VE NIC), IONetworkingFamily.kext -Change the string of the AppleIntel8255x.kext. Here's my lspci: 00:00.0 Memory controller [0580]: nVidia Corporation CK804 Memory Controller [10de:005e] (rev a3) 00:01.0 ISA bridge [0601]: nVidia Corporation CK804 ISA Bridge [10de:0050] (rev a3) 00:01.1 SMBus [0c05]: nVidia Corporation CK804 SMBus [10de:0052] (rev a2) 00:02.0 USB Controller [0c03]: nVidia Corporation CK804 USB Controller [10de:005a] (rev a2) 00:02.1 USB Controller [0c03]: nVidia Corporation CK804 USB Controller [10de:005b] (rev a3) 00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller [10de:0059] (rev a2) 00:06.0 IDE interface [0101]: nVidia Corporation CK804 IDE [10de:0053] (rev f2) 00:07.0 IDE interface [0101]: nVidia Corporation CK804 Serial ATA Controller [10de:0054] (rev f3) 00:08.0 IDE interface [0101]: nVidia Corporation CK804 Serial ATA Controller [10de:0055] (rev f3) 00:09.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCI Bridge [10de:005c] (rev a2) 00:0a.0 Bridge [0680]: nVidia Corporation CK804 Ethernet Controller [10de:0057] (rev a3) 00:0b.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCIE Bridge [10de:005d] (rev a3) 00:0c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCIE Bridge [10de:005d] (rev a3) 00:0d.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCIE Bridge [10de:005d] (rev a3) 00:0e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCIE Bridge [10de:005d] (rev a3) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600 LE] [10de:0142] (rev a2) 05:07.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 [8086:1229] (rev 08) 9] (rev 08) What is my device id and vender id to change the string of the AppleIntel8255x.kext? How can i get the intel lan work? If someone has a driver for these cards or solution to get this working i would appreciate that very much. Last edited by Doerak; 10-12-2008 at 11:03 AM. |

This is the part you need:
05:07.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 [8086:1229] (rev 08) 8086 is Intel's vendor id and 1229 is the physical device id. Btw. Have you seen this new nforce lan driver? Yes, can you pleace tell me which one i can use?
Marvell 88E1111 is the name of my onboard lan. The board is an nForce4 ultra. 0.61.0alpha_osx, 0.61.1alpha_osx I0.61.2, 0.61.3alpha_osx, 0.61.4alpha_osx, 0.61.4alpha_osx (source) Can i install them with kexthelper, or are these plugins. Looks like when i install nForcelan.zip, everything works just fine, internet, network connection. Then when i restart it doesn't anymore. Can i install them with kexthelper, or are these plugins? Other possibilities; -- I've read that Naquaada moderator uses Forcedepth -v on almost the same board. http://www.infinitemac.com/f5/socket...sus-a8n-t1127/ -- AppleYukon.kext 1 or 2, Delete AppleYukon2, import AY1 and then change the string. Appleyukon is a plugin of the IONetworkingfamily.kext. Also installed drivers: NForceethernetdriver.kext IONetworkingfamily.kext -- 00:0a.0 Bridge [0680]: nVidia Corporation CK804 Ethernet Controller [10de:0057] (rev a3) Is my Vendor id; 10de Device id; 0057? And the string gets 0x005710de string? As you can see, my knowledge on computers is not that advanced, but i'm sure that, with a little help, i hope my system will work. I have an asus a8n sli, and it's working fine now with the new kext developed by eno, the one Voyn1x mentioned.
And having a look at your hardware it seems almost the same as mine, so I don't think that the problem is the lan controller. Hi, Thank you for your replies. I just installed driver from Voyn1x's link, 0.61.0alpha_osx,and so far no kernel panic. Hope it stays this way, otherwise i will consider a realtek network card.
edit: Mm, cheered to early, got a kernelpanic again. Last edited by Doerak; 10-12-2008 at 05:00 PM. |

Perhaps it's something else. What kernel are you using?

I have a system instal with Zephyroth Leopard Amd 10.5.2 Rev.2.
From DVD : Toh kernel 9.2.0 Med.vil Nforce 2,3,4,5 chipset driver Skge driver for Lan. Graphic: Nvidia 10.5.2 kexts and NVinject 256 Mb File systems NTFS (I've got IDE drive for the operation system, the sata drive (NTFS) i use for XP) Bootloader, single boot, Darwin MBR EFI V8 Then at startup i installed (i found these kexts on internet, mostly on insanelymac and infinitemac.); Ionetworking.kext and NforcEthernet driver. Now i have my internet running, but still get kernel panics. And network fails to connect, i can't connect to other computer. After this i updated the kernel, 9.2.2 kernel + system kexts. But still internet panics, and don't have connection to the network. After i did the AMD updater to 10.5.5, my network connected to the network, a windows machine. From there i've updated kernel, Voodoo 9.5 Kernel + 9.5 system.kexts. Modified "About this mac." The system runs very smoothly, and it's only the internet and network that causes those panics. I've tested all thoes kernels and they're all fine, surely I got kernel panics once in a while but not related to the network.
I guess the next step is to try with some realtek card, borrow one from a friend or just buy it, and if you get kernel panics with that then you can be sure it's not the card/kext. |

I will try that, thank you.
Will any realtek card work, or do you advice the one you have, RTL-8139/8139C/8139C? I saw also 8139D, realtek 8169 lan, Realtek RTL8139/810X PCI. And i maybe consider a fresh install and then use NForcelandriver, Voyn1x mentioned, instead of NForceethernetdriver.kext and IONetworkingfamily.kext. Last edited by Doerak; 10-13-2008 at 02:08 PM. |

Yes, Plugged in a Realtek 8139, and internet and network are working perfectly, without crashing. Thank you eMatoS.
