Have you tried any of these solutions? It does sound like a driver issue since you can boot the Kalway disk successfully.
When you say you were unable to install to the sata, was this because it wasn't showing up as an option or another reason? If it wasn't showing up, try switching the sata mode to ahci mode if you can.
