Hi,
i'm new to Macs. I used my gf's macbook several times and I feel really bad that I cannot answer any of her questions in regards to OS X. I need to change the situation ![]() wondering if it's possible to make it run on my machine: AMD Phenom 9850 BE @ 2.9Ghz ASUS Crosshair II Formula nForce 780a G.SKILL 2x2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) XFX GeForce GTX260 HT OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Seagate 750GB SATA (winxp here) Samsung 40Gb SATA (free) Samsung 250Gb PATA (free) when I first tried to run installation DVD i had errors with firewire. turned it off in bios. then I had problems with USB. It said that something's not happening in 5 secs. I unplugged all usb devices, but keyboard and mouse. and after this line: Extension "com.apple.driver.iTunesPhoneDriver" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0 if freezes and says: Still waiting for root device. i found somewhere that it's a problem with not recognizing SATA HDD. I tried running with all three, two and just one HDD. same problem. then I found solution somewhere that I must have PATA DVD and HDD running on one cable. My DVD burner is SATA, so I borrowed one from my friend. dvd - master, hdd - slave gave no changes. dvd - slave, hdd - master added one more line: Extension "com.apple.driver.iTunesPhoneDriver" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0 AppleUSBOHCI [0x6e36000]::CheckSleepCapability OHCI controller will be unloaded across sleep and again : Still waiting for root device. my HDD is FAT32 with 100Gb in primary partition any ideas? |

Enable AHCI in the BIOS for your SATA drives. What southbridge does your MB use? Is it an SB600 or SB700 (like my 780G motherboards...) I have OSx86 running on 2 780G machines - 1 with a Phenom, 1 with an A64 X2.
I doubt that your video card will have anything but VESA support. Running both 10.5.8 and 10.6.4 on my stinking AMD/ATi machine... |

All running fine after:
ATI3870: DVD drivers did not work, removed kexts and installed lastexiles drivers. IDE HHD / SB600 chipset: This is the only distro allowing me to boot with my sb600 setup. But after installing the gfx driver, my hdd becomes really slow, so i had to install different sb600 drivers. Leopard 10.6.5 | Core i3 | Gigabyte H55M-USB3 | ATI 5770 | Coolermaster Cosmos |

hello, just got my copy of LawlessPPC dvd, pop it , and i got this error of : still waiting for root device..
it's about my HDD right ? this is my system : AMD Athlon X2 BE 5000 J&W RS780UVD-AM2+ (780G chipset) http://www.jwele.com/motherboard_detail.php?225 (with SB700) 1x WDC 320gb SATA II 1x SEAGATE 250GB IDE 1x LG DVDRW IDE Geforce 9600GSO 384MB i tried with 1 HD frst (the sata one) , trying AHCI & Native IDE but still got "still waiting for root device" then i tried with only IDE HD but still got the same error is there any exception for DVDRW & my IDE HD on the same cable ? or should i use my SATA HD for better performance? yes, i've tried with -x , but still no luck. at first i thought it was a USB error, because the last message was : "AppleUSBOHCI ... bla bla bla ... OHCI controller will be unloaded across sleep" but then comes along "still waiting for root device" any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks Last edited by gnuga; 10-06-2008 at 09:16 PM. |

LawlessPPC-Leo-10.5.4-Phenom&AMD
This image is a remixed Zephyroth 10.5.2 rev2 release. If this DVD does not boot on your system then its not meant to be installed on your system!!! Changes to Zephyroth release are as follows. *** Chameleon bootloader Ver 1.0.11 (used for DVD booting & installed on drive by default.) *** Modbin 9.4.0 Kernel SSE3 (installed by default) *** Alc888 (audio) 3 port, 6 ports + Digital (Fixed) *** NTFS-3G latest version (solves slow shutdowns) *** ATI SB600 Issue (solves still waiting for root device when trying to install) *** ATI HD-3650 Support (QE/CI Enabled) No white menus!!!) The reason for installing chameleon and kernel automatically is because too many people are posting in forums about drives not booting after install (not marked as active) chameleon solves theses problem. The kernel on auto is because I can confirm this works with Phenom and is the latest it also comes with the correct system.kext which seems to be a common problem CPU Support In theory this should work on all AMD SSE3 systems Phenom, Athlon X2 etc If after install you can not boot from hardrive try -v -f switches at the Chameleon (Darwin) Bootlader screen. If you get strange graphics on boot you should boot in safe mode (-x switch at Bootloader screen) then install best drivers from within the OS for your graphics chips/card. All thanks should be given to all those that have done the real work before I got my hands on it. Zephyroth (For fine releases for AMD) Zef (for producing Chameleon Bootloader) helping and his patience) Kabl (For CPU Support In Chameleon) Shadow3K (the reason I was able to install OSX on phenom in the first place) Also the authors of all the drivers in this release with out them it just wouldnt be as much fun or possible. Now the warning. If your machine blows up, you loose all drive data, your CPU melts or your wife leaves you!!!!! I am not responsible. All risks on installation are taken by you and you are responsible for installing it (you made that choice). P.S. for dual boot systems (single drive) I would recommend installing OSX first then your other choice it should work the other way round but this would be the safest method. Please post your results at http://www.infinitemac.com/discussions/ in the right thread If for any reason ther is no thread one will soon be generated even if it just to redirect you ![]() |
