you simply put it in as THE boot flag. for example, after you press a key during the countdown, type this:

-f -v "Graphics Mode"="640x480x32"
This will cause a forced load of the Extensions folder, show the boot sequence in verbose mode, and enable your Graphics to only display in 640x480 in 32bit color, and will create an admin account because it will skip the computer setup process. This means that you'll need to open System Preferences and create a new account, then reboot and log in as the account you just created... All Fixed.
