Sorry, I'm "spilling the beans" - I just stumbled across the upload

alt.binaries.mac.cd-images

for those of you who haven't discovered it already.

It's yEnc so what do I use as a newsgroup reader? MS Entourage won't decode yEnc will it?

On my news server it's up to "part019.rar" there are 154 segments in each "part"... Haven't seen how many total "parts" - 10.5.1 was 72, wasn't it? Probably more than that...

Running both 10.5.8 and 10.6.4 on my stinking AMD/ATi machine...

is this for the torrent or for the newsgroup?
How big is each part on average? I see there are 73 parts.

What is your upload speed? Please let us know, thanks.

Are you periodically updating your first post to let us know how many parts have been uploaded thus far?

[cite] zephyroth:[/cite]The installation works fine on my system except the "temacs crash".
If the installation takes time in the last minute its because it does a "diskutil repairPermissions" on the install partition.
I've added the SystemProfiler fix (SPPlatformReporter, SPiPlatformReporter, SPMemoryReporter) and replace "translate" from 10.5.2 with the one from 10.5.1 (multiple crash with multiple apps).
The extensions folder in the DVD has been deleted.
What is your upload speed?

I will write a howto to add kexts in the DVD (if you need to).

Don't blame me if it doesn't work on your system. It takes time just to make it stable on mine ...

Further updates will be ppf or mpkg files.

Newsgroups aren't hard. I've never used them but I managed to find the upload as well.

First you want to verify you have usenet access...I'd first check to see what your ISP offers, though chances are it's slow and a tiny bandwidth limit.
You can obtain it from several places pretty cheaply (I got 20gb or 30 days for $10)
I choose Easynews but like I said I signed up today so I'm unsure how they compare - seemed like a fair price and decent reviews. I make no warranties or claims - I've also heard of GIganews and Usenext. Know nothing about them.

Next you need a client. Some mail clients handle binary downloads better than others. I'm actually using a trial of Forte Agent. It seemed pretty complicated to me at first but I'm figuring it out. I've downloaded 18 parts already...

Anybody that has more experience can probably help more. I just wanted to help someone get started. I didn't think it would work out but...yay initiative!

How many parts have been uploaded so far? 18gb? Who will be uploading the torrent file, and when will it be available?
I tried using Newsgroup commando, but I can't access the link alt.binaries.mac.cd-images. Any other ways? Thanks.

While Zephyroth is still offline from this forum, can somebody please take his place for now and give us a periodic status at how many parts are left? Thank you.

I have through part 19 downloaded.

It looks like 20, 21, and 22 are currently being uploaded in pieces.

Note that that might just be what my usenet server is providing me - he could be farther along - I am not an expert!
