Turn needed options in BIOS to use USB-HDD. (I guess legacy usb must be on, you dont need to turn off anything in bios to boot up osx, just use defaults)
Use Zephs 10.5.1 install DVD and you will get to osx instalation desktop.

Problem with my Gateway gm5664

I've followed the instruction on the first post. It seems like my problem is with the SATA drive on my machine which was recognized as a read only device. So can not partition or format the drive at all. I have the nvdia geforce6150se/nforce 430 graphic. Here is the spec
http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1015004R/1015004Rsp2.shtml
Where can I find a driver for this chip set? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I'm doing everything as I should, but when I get to

"5. Update kernel to latest (using Kalyway all kernels package)"

I'm not sure which one to install. The sleep one boots, but my USBs started acting weird. I tried to fix them somehow and I screwed everything - even if I replace the kernel and system.kext with the backup I made them, I'm still unable to boot. Even in safe mode. So now I'm going to format the disk again and install everything again. So my question is which kernel are you guys using and do you have any problems with the USBs?

I have the same mobo and cpu as Shadow3k and this thread helped me enormously. Just wanna make everything work perfectly.

Lawless, I have the very same MB model as you do! I can't boot OS X Install with the regular Zephyroth 10.5.2 disk ("Still waiting for root device"-error), but when I manually edited the install disk with the SB600 kexts, the dvd managed to boot all the way into the installer! Only problem now is, that I can't see my Samsung SATA-II disk at all, even with the SB600 kexts.. All I see in Disk Utility is my two cd/dvd-drives. Also, when I try to mount my HDD manually in the Installer Command Prompt it says that I can't do that because it doesn't recognise the filesystem. :S Is there any specific command I need to execute for the install to see my HDD? Do you have any solution to the problem?

See my config below:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+ @ 2.5GHz
MB: MSI K9A2 CF-F
RAM: 4Gb Corsair (DDR2 667) @ 800MHz
North Bridge: ATi/AMD 780
South Bridge: ATi SB600
DVD Drive: LiteOn DVDRW SHM-165P6S (IDE)
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint T166 320GB (SATA-II)

I used the 10.5.1 disk on my install but have now managed to run 10.5.2 and that has no issues with my drives when it boots admitted I have changed the dvd but nothing to do with the SATA chipset. As a small note try booting with the options -v -f this is always worth a try if you are having trouble suprising how many pickels this has got me out of also try just running with 2GB of memory at least for the install. Also if you can pick up a usb to SATA/IDE adapter this can be a god send. This will let you make the install to the disk you want then let you install the sb600 kext with kext helper then boot drive on a SATA lead but use -v -f switches. These adapters arent expensive and help you get out of all tricky situations. When I added the sb600.kext to 10.5.1 dvd it wasnt the best way but heres how I did it. I just copied SB600.kext to system/library/extensions then when I booted dvd I just used the -v -f switches this will only give you sata support for that session which means it wont be installed when you have finished. So untill an iso appears that will let you boot and have sata support from the word go your only option is a usb to sata adapter. It will let you do a normal install then install the needed SB600 kext then move drive to a SATA connector.

Hope this helps

Well, but if the SB600 kext doesn't have SATA-II support? Will it work inside OSX anyway?

Anyhow, thanks for your reply m8!
