first off, are you using the new voodoo kernel?

if not, then you'll need to MAKE separate Single-Update installers using ASU...
using combo updates does not work if you are working on an AMD-patched system.

I'm hoping this is as simple as possible because normally it confuses the hell out of people:

ASU was found to alter any ".pkg" file placed in a user's Downloads folder... Thanks go to naquaada for this awesome find. This means that if you place the single updates downloaded directly from the Apple website (Downloads -> All Downloads -> Apple -> Mac OS X Updates) and extract the .pkg file from the image you download and place it in your Downloads folder it will be patched so you can install it to an AMD system.

You NEED to have at least one update that is left in your system that you can select "modify only" for... then run ASU and then manually install the .pkg files (except for any combo updates you may have had to select to create the single-updates)...

so first, place the files in the Downloads folder, then run ASU...

any questions?

EDIT: in your case, I would do a clean install and then try this. You will also have a lot of things you can select "Modify Only" for now, and I recommend SAVING any that you create.

if you need, I still have MY update packages from back in the day when I needed them. PM me if you don't want to do the work yourself... however, I still recommend a clean install.
