Now that Snow Leopard has been leaked, we can now try to make it run on our AMD system's.
I made this topic so we can discuss this here...

Info from the green demon:

Snow Leopard Developer Preview.cdr 6.52 GB

Quote:
This is the developer preview edition of Apple's next operating system, Mac OS 10.6.

MD5 (Snow Leopard Developer Preview.cdr) = 5cf0ebaeeda1404f1ee549982f7ffdf2

IT IS NOT READY FOR GENERAL CONSUMPTION. DON'T INSTALL THIS ON YOUR PRIMARY SYSTEM. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS, DON'T INSTALL IT, DONT DOWNLOAD IT.

DO redistribute and re-upload this file elsewhere. I'm sharing it for the many technological experimenters and developers out there that weren't able to pay the $1300+ admission to WWDC.

Enjoy, and, Apple, please don't sue me. If you want me to stop leaking, send me an email explaining why this is a bad thing. I'll listen.

Just installed it, is working fine. But unfortunelately only on my C64, not on my Mac.

I'm always wondering why they always leak this stuff so early. Maybe they want to have a working OSx86 version at the same time when it's official released.

I've finished downloading and try to patch the single packages with Zephyroth's AMD Updater bug. Let's see what happens.

First run: testing all files, including languages and printer drivers. Nothing, but the patcher hangs at HewlettpackardPrinterDrivers.pkg and JavaTools.pkg. Tested the missing packages, no cpuids at all.

Second run: I now tried all main packages seperatedly: ACL, AddressBook, Automator, BaseSystem, BootCamp, BSD, DeTier, Directory, DVDPlayer, iCal, iChat, iPodSupport, iTunes, Java, JavaTools, Mail, MigrationAssistent, OSInstall, OSUpgrade, PodcastCapture, Safari, X11User, nothing.

What is the reason? The packages seem to be copened correctly, I can see the files of the .pkg in the temporary folder. Have they changed the file format that the patcher can't find the cpuids? Or arent't they using cpuids anymore at all? Would be easier to release an official OSx86! This <could> be a posible, but very vage reason why they release a version 10.6 shortly after 10.5! But don't expect too much.

To do: People with Intel CPU's should run to run the DVD natively. Use an USB harddrive, copy the DVD on it and try to install EFI on it or whatever. The .cdr file I donwloaded is writeable on my system! If you delete the Xcode 3.2 package and the extra printer drivers it fit's on a normal Single-Layer DVD. All programs are in a single packages on the DVD, so if you want to install only Safari you can do it. To go to the packages folder, open the DVD's and press the following keys:

Windows keyboard: Alt+Shift+G
Mac keyboard: Option+Shift+G

Now enter this path: system/installation/packages

Remember: No / as first letter, otherwise it will try to use the path on your boot volume. But this folder isn't existing there.

Hi zeph, nice to hear something from you!

here is the log file of the AMD Updater. The file 'Airport-Dienstprogramm' is not on the 10.5.6 DVD, I had to download it so that the AMD Updater started this patching routine.

P.S.: I'm wasting to much time in this forum - this is my 1000st post ;-)

So, here are the latest news. I installed the main programs in my 10.5.3 test partition and got following results. I post first the 10.5.3 version number of the program, then the 10.6 version number. > means a lower version bump and >> a higher version bump.

These progs are executable, but not tested for a longer period:

Adress Book 4.1 = 4.1
Automator 2.0.2 > 2.1
iTunes 7.6.2 = 7.6.2

Migration Assistent 1.2.1 >> 2.0
X11User 2.0 = 2.0

These programs quit unexpecdetly:

DVD-Player 5.0.1 > 5.1
iCal 3.0.3 < 3.0
iChat 4.0.3 >> 5.0
Mail 3.3 >> 4.0

BootCamp Assistant 2.0 >> 3.0 beta
Directory 1.0.3 = 1.0.3
Disk Utility 11.1 > 11.5
Java Preferences 12.0.0 > 12.1.0

These programs need another (newer) OS version:

Safari 3.1.1 >> 4.0 Developer
PodcastCapture 1.0.2 = 1.0.2

Unknown:

DeTier
iPodSupport
OSinstall
OSUpgrade

As we can see that's not so easy as we wished ;-) At last I installed the BaseSystem.pkg - the installer fails, some letters were missing in the text and in the Dock icon texts. Couldn't make a screenshot 'cause no program started, they only bumped in the Dock. After a reboot I got finally the log awaited kernel panic - MacOS version Not Yet Set.

So that's from me, now make your experienences. This is especcially for the Intel guys.
