Do you think it was because the ram chip was different or do you think its because you had more than 3Gb of memory, a lot of people get crashes when they use over 3Gb.

well although I think things got a little worse after I had installed that same kernel, but before then firefox would randomly crash it didn't at all after the idlehalt thing.

just a last update on the temperature thing before I dismantle my system.
temp running around 45 degrees no overclocking but I do have a thermalright xp-120 so I'm guessing the temps would be hell...

With this in place its nearer 60degrees

Well so far after three and a half hours "downloading torrents" this is looking very promising, except my cpu temp is about the same as running prime95. Oh well suppose you can't have everything.
