Is it possible to update from 10.5.2 to 5.8?
Last nite, i tried 3 different installs of iATKOS_v7 each time picking different drivers and things to install hoping it would boot but continuing to leave me with the "You need to restart your computer" thing... last shot i think it was somethign to do with intel speedstep or power mgmt of the processor which is strange...
But anyway... Reinstalled Kalyway 10.5.2 on my GA-G31M-ES2L for some reason the kalyway disc installs with ZERO issues on this board except onboard lan (and i know how to fix that) Anyway, long nite... BIG QUESTION: I noticed OSX has gone and downloaded apples updates to 10.5.8 and it's taken the liberty of downloading all 800+MB of updates Itunes, Airport, Quicktime etc... and this Mac OX Update Combined 10.5.8... Is there **ANY** way of installing that and having it work? Dan |

Sure it's possible to update to 10.5.8 - but for the how-to you should provide more Infos about your System. (It's important which kind of CPU you're using, etc.)
AMD Phenom II X4 955 - ASRock AM3A770DE - 8GB DDR3-1333 - Radeon HD 5570 1GB passiv - BCM4318 802.11b/g - Snow Leopard Retail
+++ AMD Phenom X3 8450 - ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA (BIOS L2.39) - 4GB DDR2-800 - Radeon HD 4650 512MB - Snow Leopard Retail (retired) / OpenBSD |

Motherboard: GA-G31M-ES2L
Ram: 2GB DDR2-800 PC6400 Processor: E6300 Intel Dual Core 2.8Ghz Video: Nvidia 7300GS HDD: Seagate 160GB SATA HP Dvd1040 Ngear front usb/firewire/sata/audio (not working) Internal LAN not working Installed SMC1211tx functioning as replacement Azalea sound working good... Currently on Kalyway 10.5.4 stable... Found those updates, was lucky enough to make it that far. I only wanted to update cuz iWork required 10.5.7 but I see that Office works on 10.5.4 so maybe i'll just leave things as they are... I dunno... I gotta learn this stuff about kexts and such to get the system in full gear, but I find insanelymac and the other sites a ton of repetitive or cryptic writing to get thru and get what i'm looking for. I'm writing a killer guide once I get my head wrapped around the basics. Dan |

Your system is easy as you've got a Core2Duo you should be able to use the vanilla kernel, so you can just use the common update guides like the ones posted on ihackintosh blog:
10.5.5 - 10.5.6 - 10.5.7 - 10.5.8 Good luck. ![]() PS. You can "fake" your OS X Version by editing /System/Library/Coreservices/SystemVersion.plist this will make you able to run latest iLife, iWork & Co even on lower versions. ![]() AMD Phenom II X4 955 - ASRock AM3A770DE - 8GB DDR3-1333 - Radeon HD 5570 1GB passiv - BCM4318 802.11b/g - Snow Leopard Retail

I was able to install iWork on my machine by editing the systemversion.plist
thanks for the huge tip. Drag to the desktop, edit and replace.. ![]() Not sure if i wanna try upgrading but I'll keep it as a reference. Why break what works currently.. haha... 💡 Deploy cloud instances seamlessly on DigitalOcean. Free credits ($100) for InfMac readers. |
