Time Machine backup on one hard disk and one partition? 10.5.2 Rev.2, Thanks

I need want to backup my system using Time Machine. However, I only have one hard disk with one partition. Is there any way I can possibly still set up a backup method using time machine? Would appreciate it. Thank you.
